Chemo Number 5 tomorrow

Another early start in the dark of night as we head to Brisbane.

Stephen and I have it down pat now. First stop Maccas at Gympie for breakfast,  caramel latte and a pastry.

Next stop the twin servo on the left for another caramel latte and use the money machine.

Next stop RBWH where he drops me off at the front door and off he goes to spend a day browsing the motorbike shops.

Mine involves going to Pharmacy to pay for last scripts then off up to level 4 and oncology to get stuck with needles and look forward to the lovely man who brings the food trolley around at least 4 times a day.

Hope all goes well & the shrinking continues on. I'll be thinking of you. Today I went to heart specialist & now I am wired up (like a suicide bomber) with a heart monitor until Friday. I drop it back in the morning, then go to chemo & then go to heart surgery again & have a ultra sound. It's the odd week when I don't have a medical event of some sort nearly every day. Monday was the only day off this week. Best wishes Alice

Thank you Gayle and Alice. How you keep it up Alice I dont know. One day a fortnight is enough for me. Will be thinking of you on Friday.
Another day successfully out of the way. Dont like the long waits in the waiting room. App was for 10.30am finally called in at 12.30. Which makes it a long day not getting home till 9pm after leaving at 5am
Next visit I see Dr Lane who was head of my team when in hospital. He will arrange another scan for the morning of the 7th treatment.
In the meantime I will just take it easy.

Hope your next scan shows a well melted abdominal snowman, Marj - thinking of you. Was great to see Alice and Keith, and they both look pretty good considering. Stay well, and take care - g'day to Stephen!!!

Probably too late for this Chemo, but today I was watching an old ABC program "Catalyst" about Cancer and Exercise. Interesting to say the least. They are doing some research where patients undergo specialised exercises either just before or just after having their dose of Chemo. This causes increased blood flows throughout the body, but I guess also in specific areas where they want it. By having increased blood flows, this means that more of the Chemo gets to the targetted area. Early results seem to show improvements in treatment results. It may be worth chasing your Onco man to see what he/she says about it being suitable for you.

My wife has Ovarian Cancer and has recently finished her 4th series of Chemo. Until recently, she was playing tennis and everyone from the Onco man through to the paliative care nurses was surprised that she could play. They encouraged her to keep it up and she did until this last round, when she was knocked over well and truly by the Chemo. Equally, the Chemo has well and truly knocked the cancer as well, so there has been a tradeoff somewhere. Now that this research has come to light, we will certainly be chasing the Onco man next week to see what he says about the suitability of targetted exercises for her.

Best wishes for continued good results with the chemo. I will have a bit of a think re the exercise. My worst side effect, unfortunately, is inertia.

For some reason my family tend to have medical emergencies in the strangest placest.
My daughter Renee and family are on a camping trip up the middle to Darwin and return.
Well they made it to Darwin after a very successful trip. Now she is in Darwin Hospital, in theatre at the moment having her appendix out.
Taken to hospital yesterday morning with what was thought to be severe gastro only to find after a ct scan today it was appendix.
Waiting to hear from her hubby Jordan how she's doing.

What a week. Renee still in hospital. Had a lot of problems. They've just taken the drain out today, won't be out for a few more days, maybe Friday.
She won't be able to travel home by car so Jordan and the kids are heading home and she will fly a couple of days after discharge. Giving her a couple of days resting in Darwin while arrangements are made.
It's little Nate's 3rd birthday today, what a way to celebrate.
I've over-indulged the last few days and not 100% so a cup of soup for tea tonight. Slept all day. Won't be long out of bed tonight.

Had a lovely meet up with Alice, Kandagal, today. We had lunch at the Coffee Club and a long chat. Thank you Alice, having a really crappy day certainly changed into a really happy day. Certainly lifted my spirits, I hope it did yours too.

Daughter's latest is she has now been discharged and in a hotel till the morning when she boards a plane for home, via Adelaide. She will get home Saturday afternoon and Jordan, his mum and the boys should be home Sunday.

Tomorrow I'm meeting up with Beth54. Will be great seeing Beth again, not seen since the first day of chemo when she sat with me through the whole procedure.

Latest update before starting a new thread. Next chemo on Wednesday.
Daughter and family all arrived home safely with hubby and kids getting home only a few hours later than Renee.
Had a lovely day with Beth and her sister on Saturday. Lunch at Enzos on the Esplanade and an enjoyable drive looking at the sights.
Safe journey Alice.and Keith to your next housesit. We will keep in touch.
In the past after chemo I've had one bad week then a better week with the third being good when I had it.
No on two weekly and maybe with the buildup of chemo in my system, I have had two really crappy weeks.
Can only keep hoping it's all for a good cause.
See you in the next thread, for anyone still following my ramblings.
