Gday...

I was provided with this one 8 years ago before I headed off with the van.

I doubt I have used it for the past 7 and three quarter years

After the first half dozen times of packing up and hitting the road from a camp, it becomes a natural routine.

Although, despite this list I did leave the van's handbrake on once in the first month (wondered why it was heavy to tow ) and I did leave the Winegard antenna would up once for about 150km. cry

Feel free to use, modify or even discard it.

Cheers - John

We always use one. A couple of years ago we were getting a bit blase about the check list and didn't think we needed it. Overnighted at the Head of the Bight and left behind a ramp and our portable step. The older we get the more likely we are to forget something, e.g. earlier this year we drove into a town and found Alan hadn't connected the safety chain - could have been disastrous! Brenda.

Hi Brenda & Alan

I think its a good idea to have some sort of check list. I pack up outside and secure those items and the wife Betty checks inside. And we both do a walk around before we leave. But still forget something.cheers

We've got one, it's laminated & we've used it every time we've packed up & driven off for the past 4 years. No-one's perfect, it's incredibly easy to overlook something. We've lost count of the number of times we've seen vans traveling with the pop-top not clipped down, TV aerial up, sullage hose dragging along the road or step not retracted.

Thanks for the replies i think that if you take time and check then things should be ok thanks treecrest i can see good points in that list and like desert dweller we have also seen a step left down and tv arial up so a list of some sort is a good thing.

And as some one else it is so easy to become blasé about packing up. I do the inside and Phil does the outside then we swap and double check each other...amazing what you can miss!! Then we pull forward a van length and walk around again.. chocks, step, annex/ awning pegs, hoses and collect up any rubbish and final thing is check that all lights are working.
Having said that we drove 60 kms from Hopetoun on the back roads with the van hand brake on!! Another trip we drove from home to Northam via Bindoon and Toodyay, a narrow windy hilly road, with the van NOT locked on the towball. They are now 2 things we both check!!
.
I am sure every one has similar stories of things left behind no matter how carefully you check. It is all part and parcel of travelling.

As an old aviator, check lists are essential and indispensible. This is one I made up for my Iveco Motorhome some years back:
