We have dometic windows in our van and although they work well up and down etc we do get those pesky midges coming in by the bucket loads . We do not have the furry strips behind the frame which you can purchase apparently, but have heard that they are painful to install and are causing problems with the tension over time So
What about those magnetic flysceens has any body tried this and are they practical thinking here of having to open them up to close the blind ?
Please stick to the question as I am aware that i can buy the fix from Dometic .

midges and small insects get through the standard flywire. We have just replaced the door wire with midge screen from Bunnings. I also made a screen to fit into the roof hatch by sewing Velcro onto a piece of midge wire then putting self sticking Velcro all around the hatch - this is working a treat. 2 of our windows have midge screen on them and a search of the internet has found replacable screens using midge wire but these are for the older type windout windows. You could make your own screens attaching them using Velcro - its easy to sew. We also put the midge netting inside all our vents, fridge, microwave and range hood.

Thanks Jenny and or Barry, the flywire we have seems to be ok the mozzies and midgets are getting in behind the white surround of the window must check the vents though .

Aluminium is no problem for for magnetic fly screens
I've got them on my house for more than 20 years
What they do is they stick a magnetic strip all around the window in a one way direction ( if you bugger that up its like the fridge seals they wont stay closed if they are wrongly installed )
And the fly screen has a strip all around glued on to it in one direction also than it will stick to the window
I must say that the windows that are in the full sun the screens wont last that long
I have to replace some by now But 22 years it's been pretty good I think
they Also make them in a finer mesh so it will stop sand fly's
Go for the fine mesh you never know were you camp and sand fly's are horrible

Was thinking of useing something like this on a when required basis as we already have the screens / blind on the Windows .I presume that we will stop the airflow somewhat but hopefully that will be ok ?

My old motorhome / bus conversion has home made Velcro on frame and screen .. Astheitally it's a little hard on the eyes .. They work though..
Could work on one or two main windows ?
We have just put magnetic flyscreens on our windows, works wonderfully. We bought them off a guy on ebay, you buy them and make them up to your size, we put magnetic strip around the windows that put them on. My hubby did ours and got me to go out to the van and I didn't notice that he had them done as they are really unnoticeable. Stops the bugs crawling around those pesky windows, if we had our time again we would go back to the windout windows much better in our opinion. Hope this helps. We love our fix. We have a Free Spirit caravan and you can hardly notice at all and only if we bring it to peoples notice.
