OK, if this is not startling new info, I apologise and will back off.
In the mean time my neighbours little Jack Russel Harry, jumped up and stuck his nail (claw) into an artery in my shin, and because of all the aspirin I take, I started to bleed very fast. Maybe 100 Mil in a couple of minutes. My wife slapped a tissue on it, then a large Band-aid to get it under control. My neighbour had raced off and returned with a roll of Glad Wrap. I said what's that for?. He said if somebody is loosing a lot of blood quickly, put the Glad Wrap over the spot, wrap it around both sides around the back and to the front and tie a not in it. I thought what a brilliant idea, everybody should know that, and everybody should carry a roll of Glad Wrap in the boot of their car for that once in a life time moment.
OK, that might be stale news for some, but maybe there are some out there like me that didn't know this little trick. Please don't say, "so what", as my heart is in the right place.
Simmo.

Thanks for that Young Simmo. Will pass the info on to my son who had to call the ambulance just two nights ago when the same thing happened. Not a dog claw, just a natural occurrence.
Some GPs use it too. I sliced my foot open on some galvanised metal sheet a while back, and that's what the doc used to close the wound. Not your ordinary superglue though, it was blue and cost about $40 a small single use tube he said.
An uncle of mine cut his arm open while out pigging, back when I was a teenager, and got his 13yr old son to sew it up with a needle and button cotton, that he used to sew the dogs up if they got gored by pigs.

Used glad wrap on electrical burns caused by a switch room failure years ago, Doc was stoked as he could see the wound without unwrapping it, keeps the wound clean as well.
Fire fighters used to keep a roll in the trauma kit in their truck.
