To be honest, i think the whole ring pull tab thing is a bit of a con. People collect them thinking they are doing good and believe they are made of titanium. They aren't. The only titanium in them is trace levels only, and they are sold for scrap by the institutions where they end up. It would be far better to collect the whole can, which weighs at least 50 times what the tab weighs, and send the cash from that in. Or just make a donation. The reason given for not using the whole can, is that it is too bulky, and the left overs in them attracts flies and ants etc. But people in offices always seem to have at least one person that pushes the barrow for them, and everyone else is made to feel like a bit of a grouch, if they don't participate. I pointed it out to my mrs who has been forcing me to drink cartons of beer to keep the supply up, my liver can't take any more... hic...

It,s all a big DUD. Scanned the internet about the ring pulls a few years ago and found nothing. Just that people collect them and then have nowhere to get rid of them as they are not titanium. My neighbour is the boss in a plant that makes the lids. They are normal aluminium. The charities who collect aluminium for resale want the whole can, not just the ring pull.

Apparently there are some organisations that collect them, but I think mostly in the US. And my previous comments about the collecting of the tabs still stands.

Apparently the US uses more steel to make bottle tops than cars. Hence collecting bottle tops, not ring pulls, is a big deal.

This is really about recycling aluminium. Better value taking the whole can to the recycler. Nothing special about the ring pull.

Collecting ring pulls and donating the proceeds to charity is not a lot of difference to collecting empty long necks when I was a kid and waiting for the scouts or service clubs to collect and sell and use the money for a good cause. Just should be the whole can.

I agree 03_Troopy , But I had to ask the question.

Also I had a 1992 Troopy for 14 years from, 40,000Kms to 320,000 Km. The best vehicle of all I have had. Took it around the block twice with a van on, and never missed a beat. Had a wind breaker on the bonnet with "Trusty Troopy" written on it. Our German Shepherd really loved all that space. The water pump still holds up my wind direction indicator on our current roof today.
