Easy Bread Making

We spend a lot of time camped out in the bush away from civilization, sometimes we don't go near a town for more than 2 weeks. This creates a problem as far as having fresh bread is concerned.

We've been making loaves from scratch for quite a while but recently we found ready mixed, just add water & kneed Light House brand bread mix.

We're doing a 2 month Outback NSW trip soon so we made a loaf at home to see how it cooks & tastes.

In a word it's FABULOUS! It's exactly like the bread you buy from a bakery. It toasts beautifully too.

There are 4 different breads to choose from, we baked the Crusty White Vienna.

We are not connected with the Light House Baking company. www.lighthousebaking.com.au

Here are a few images of our experiment. We used our Companion Wok Cooker & Coleman folding oven, a great combination that we use for Pizzas & full Sunday Roasts.

A 2 loaf box costs $5.50 at Coles Supermarkets.

I'v been doing this for years, usually Lauke brand but not always.

I mix the dough in my breadmaker then transfer to a loaf tin with lid (I prefer flat-top loafs) then into the oven or Weber.

Beautiful bread at a fraction of the cost of (good) bread in the shops.

I am at a premium for space and had talked myself out of having an oven at all. I had never heard of a Coleman folding oven before. I must check it out. I love my apple and walnut cakes.

They look brilliant. I do really miss home cooked bread. The idea of using the bread maker to prepare the mix and then pulling it out to cook in an oven makes sense I guess. My solar system no way would cook bread but would get it to the dough stage no problem. I have tried hand making bread from scratch but it has always been a disaster.
