External antennas are one way. Phone with external jacks available and modems with external jacks,,, we use both.

Some sites that may assist with basic info.

 https://telcoantennas.com.au/site/catalog/4g-equipment

We use these - High Gain 850/900/1800/1900/2100 Spring Base Fibreglass Vehicle/Marine Antennas for nextG, 3G, GSM, 4G LTE that is listed on this website below.

hope this helps

cheers Baz

Hi KoKo,

We use a Yagi attanna ( eBay ) + one telsopic pool pole + heavy cable 10 mtrs + telsta wireless Modem + patch for the Phone. The phone we get from Woolies or Coles 3G rural compatible About $49.00 may be cheaper now. Some don't show the patch connection, and you need to remove the backing case, mark and drill a hole in the case so the patch cable can plug in form the out side. Their may be newer ways now, buts that's the way we go.

Pre pay is what we used ( not Cheap ). Better off on a Telstra plan.

We were camping at Yardie Creek CP Exmouth WA  Its about 35km as the crow flies pointing the Yagi attanna back the the direction of the tower in Exmouth. When the wind blows over 15 knots no one could get reception.

The phone you use MUST have that port for the patch cable.

Regards Jim & Lambie

Hi Koko.

Beware don't expect miracles with mobile internet, we have been a long time user of the other band, enjoyed the service we got thinking we get what we pay for.

A little over 2 months ago before leaving on a 2 month trip though central NSW, we bit the bullet and brought a prepaid portable wi fi from the big firm, the best we could get, it had 2 antenna holes in it, $120 worth and a new plain phone. When we went to use it to our horror it was different to the mobile phone so into the shop we go and they sell us the one we need $19  for the right pigtail only to find out 300 ks down the track when at another shop complaining that it was next to useless get told we need a pig tail with 2 ends to make it work $38 thank you. They do confirm our black antenna is OK, but you got to take there word for it because they show you how good it working in the shop.

We move out back a bit further from Orange the mobile phone has coverage, the wi fi tells us it not, time to plug the expensive leads in and you can guess not good internet, kept on dropping out,, what made me madder with myself I had left the other band wi fi at home as the forum people said you must have the big firm.

At Condobolin the big firm struggled with signal but the other band was real good.

I went onto a lot of forums trying to find a answer and most are saying the big one is over loaded at the moment with Nexflex, I think that is what it called. It did surprise me even in Sydney it was not very reliable mobile wi fi service. Saying that we were with friends down the Gold Coast and they had an older style wi fi and this newer one was performing better.

Hope this is of help, take a couple of pigeons with just in case. Ralph.
