Anti - tick pill

Just bought a new product from my Vet. NexGard - an anti flea and tick pill for dogs. Couey does not get fleas, but I worry about ticks when we travel to some places. Her double, mostly black coat, is so thick it would be hard to find a tick on her. On our last trips, used Advantix, plus a collar. But that was supposed to be put on a month before going to tick area - and whenever we put on a fresh lot, she would roll in dust and get all messy! Apparently, this new pill is effective a few days after first taking it, and not affected by dog going in water. It should kill ticks - though there is the usual proviso about checking the animal.

Great to find out about that one. Thanks.
We'll be looking for that when the current treatment expires.

Can get it online. Much cheaper than buying from the vet

We've just bought the same thing for our 'family' member.  I liked the idea that it lasted fro a month.  We'll begin using it in mid May.  We bought it from a 'pet' shop. much cheaper than a vet and our hope is that it works.  It is manufactured by Frontline so comes from a reputable group.

We've been using this for over 6 months now, and can safely say it keeps them flea-free (Tin Can Bay is awful for fleas). We keep them out of long grass, so not sure on ticks.

I googled reviews of nexgard and am not sure I would use it on my dogs. Apparently the dog has to be bitten by the flea or tick to die.

We used it for 2 months with our dog whilst we were in Queensland on a farm. No ticks, no fleas and absolutely no reaction. Previously we had used Advantix which is also good but had to be used every two weeks in tick areas. At home we use nothing. She doesn't get fleas or ticks but we are careful where she runs. She does run on the beach and in nearby grassed parks.

I'd use it again as it is much better than the alternative.

By the way, how is the Caravan Park going? I hope it is living up to your expectations.

Hi BruDi, it is great, we love every day here, it is always different. Very busy with the Kerang Show coming up.
