Oodnadata Track

We're looking to travel to Lake Eyre while it still has water in it. Met a bloke recently who reckoned the Oodnadata track had been chewed up pretty badly following the rains they had up there. Does anyone have anymore up to date information on the track's condition?

Regards

Dave

We first drove up the Oodnadatta Track in a Mini during Easter 1970 and have driven it again on many occasions since.
It has always been better than the first time.

A recent road report would simply reflect the opinion of one person on that particular day. Next day it would be different and every other person would have a different view and their views would never coincide with yours.

If you are prepared to take it quietly (and I mean QUIETLY) it will be fine.

Up to date reports on the Lake here.... www.lakeeyreyc.com/Status/latest.html
I would strongly recommend a flight over the Lake from William Creek with WrightAir as well as a drive out to Halligan Bay without the van.

Cheers,
Peter

Havn't seen much of the Oodnadatta Track yet. After crossing the Simpson we stayed at Mt. Dare and then on too Oodnadatta,

Where all roads out were closed except the one to Marla. We stayed in the pub at Oodnanatta then went on to Marla and down

to Coober Pedy. The Track up to Marla was very wet and was closed soon after we got there. Very cut up with the traffic that was on it.

We are still in Coober Pedy and the OT is still completely closed. The road from here to William Creek is closed too so we will stay here until

it and the rest of the OT opens.

The trip across the Simpson Desert was great.smile

Both the Oodnadatta and Birdsville tracks are open but pretty rough in a lot of places.

I guess it now depends on how soon the graders are out there doing their thing.

The main thing is to drive to the conditions and be prepared to take more time.

Hi Guys

This may help your decision making and I believe you can ring them and they will tell you when they intend to grade.

And bear in mind that if you travel the Oodna when it is officially closed, you will face hefty fines.

With the big bash at Big Red on 7th July I would  expect they will do all the roads into Birdsvillein the next two weeks. The road into birdsville from Windorah and the one from Bedourie are in good shape as we just completed that trip last Friday 6/6/15. Speaking to people today who came up the birdsville track from innamincka said it was in good condition with a couple rough spots in the middle. They were towing a trailer camper.
