Travelling

We have just returned from just over 2 weeks in the Victorian High Country.  We loved the free camping available in the State Forests and the fact that we could have our dogs.  Even the caravan parks allowed us to have our dog.  Beechworth was one of the best we have encountered.  Pippa, our dog, had a wonderful time where she was able to be off lead, run and generally be merry.  She travelled beautifully in her doggy seat with one paw hanging nonchalantly over the edge while she watched the world go by.  Having our dog with us was just wonderful, as always.  CP need to be aware that many of us love to travel with them.

Couldn't agree more Di, we take our 4 yo female Labrador (Missy) everywhere with us, she's a great companion and an excellent traveler.

Four months old.

She had a wonderful time being free and exploring.  I've included a picture of her exploring, I hope.

We always travelled with our two border collies but we lost our oldest to illness a couple of months ago he loved caravanning. Toby his half brother also loves to go away , he sits by the car waiting when he see my hubby attaching the van to our tug.

I love to hear about people and their dogs and just how important they are to all of us. They're definitely part of the family. Losing a dog is so awful. People who don't have one do not understand the grief we feel. Luckily our first dogs have made our hearts able to accept another and to love it just as unconditionally.

It's so nice to know that there are other people out there who love their dogs just as much as we do, some people think we are crazy to take our animals away with us. I disagree as they are family and we couldn't go away and leave them behind as I would worry all the time and I won't put them in a kennel. Tried it once and Ranger fretted so much I felt awful.

Hi BruDi better late than never but I am really keen to know where in the Victorian High country you were able to travel with your pets. We are planning a trip in February to the high country and would be interested in any info about where you free camped with your pets.

Many thanks,

RobandFlip

RobandFlip,

Sorry for not replying to this earlier but with Christmas, New Year etc I haven't been back for awhile.  We travelled via Melbourne as we had some business there and then went onto the Buckland Valley where we stayed for several days at Ah Youngs and absolutely beautiful spot.  Our friends' dog and ours had a wonderful time being free as did the dogs of other campers.  Because we like to 4WD we did day trips out from there.  We decided to head into Beechworth when the forecast said that we were in for heavy rain and we certainly were.  We also camped at Skipworth, another beautiful spot.  Our aim is to return about the same time next year and explore a different area.

We managed to cover quite a bit of ground.  We did stay in other caravan parks as we headed home.  We come fro SA.

Cheers,

Di

Hi BruDi,
Many thanks for your reply. I have kept the info as a PDF file. We are well set up for our Lillie and Jack. They are more mature now and respond well to our commands. Great watch dogs and like all dogs, love to explore. Have to say we are really looking forward to a nice break.
Cheers,
Robyn
