My Rig

I have owned my 1974 Vw Kombi for some years and have travelled regularly in it.  Last year wife and I went from Melbourne to Adelaide, put it on the Ghan to Darwin then drove from Darwin to Perth and then back to Melbourne.  This year its back to Tassie for a few weeks or more for the third time and planning for next year to take it to Cairns, then ac=ross to Alice Springs, back to Adelaide then on to Melbourne.

It has not been all plain sailing with a problem last year with a broken valve north of Perth that required a tow to Perth for repairs but the old bus is still going after 40 years which is not too bad. I dont think many can say that of their rigs.biggrin

What a great old VW and its terrific to see that it is still on the road so enjoy your travel in a great rig that looks as though you look after it very well

Thanks for compliments,
It might not be big but when a van park is booked out, there is always room for a Kombi somewhere.

I'm impressed to see the occasional VW camper getting about.
We had one the same colour close to 30 years ago.
Love the ride in them. Ours was always reliable. Regular oil changes & not a lot else.
Congrats on keeping the class & charm rolling.

I had one the same color with a white pop-top for 8 years. A 1973 model. Had a lotta fun in that old bus, including sticking to my lane on windy days over the Harbor Bridge. Yours is looking great, Garry, and glad to see you're still flying the flag. They're worth a few bob now too if they're in good nick.

The old combi was and still is really a great vehicle. The "surfies" in my younger years loved them and the ever reliable panel van.

Bring back the Sand Man.

Just spotted the green machine Garry. It looks terrific and I look forward to seeing it 'in the flesh' one day. It's great to see classic vehicles like this in such good condition and being used for their intended purpose. Darwin to Perth in an air cooled Vdub is adventurous indeed and a tribute to the GN spirit?
