If you happen to be in that part of the world , N.S.W. Cloesby to Picton and you are a Locomotive /Train fan dont bypass this area. Afraid i cant suugest any Caravan Parks etc in the area but not a long drive from Wollongong or neaby areas where you will find Van parking..

And as a young lad i had the pleaseure of working on this little steamy though didnt think it a pleasure at the time running back n forth from the blast furnace to the slag dump runs ..Especially on really cold winters nights lol.

Quite familliar with the second image as well, there were a few old workhorses i either worked on or had oiled or lit a fire to:)..

Ahh !!!

Top one is a 36 class 4-6-0 - not 3616 or 3642, so probably 3609
Middle one is the Silver City Comet DP power car
Bottom one is AIS Port Kembla steelworks Bronzewing

Those were the days !

Yes they were lol. And I happened to have worked on the Bronzewing and others as a loco watcher. Sick of hopping around with burnt ankles from slag shrapnel dumping those ladels lol.

The old AIS B-class locos were :Bronzewing, Badger, Bellbird, Bantam, Brolga, Bandicoot, Burrawa and Baradine

In an old book, I have a photo of all 8 being towed off by one of the AIS diesels for disposal. Six were scrapped, but lucky we still have Bronzewing (at Thirlmere) and Badger (at Dorrigo) to show for future generations.

I've stayed in a hotel in the middle of Wollongong and drove a hired car up Mt Keira Rd through Wilton to Picton, then Thirlmere - not towing a van, but if you're in a van park on the coast, you'd take your tug 'up the hill' and leave the van in the park. Definitely a doable trip for say a full day - about an hours drive up, say four to six hours at the museum and an hours drive back home - makes a nice day out.
