What type of Annex walls?

We want to buy annex walls to make a complete annex with our dometic roll out awning. What do we need, such as anti-flap kit and extra rafter ? Also have had a look at some annex wall kits on the net, they are made of polyester rather than canvas. Got doors both ends and plenty of big windows at around $1400 dollars, this seems pretty good.

What are the thoughts of polyester vs canvas?

What work needs to be done to the van and awning to make it fit for annex walls?

Any advise from experience please. Also other than internet suppliers, where is a good supplier in SA (We are in Victor Harbor).

I think Poly is too flammable.

Canvas is the go... Just my opinion Walt.

I have a vinyl annex witch was with the van when we bought it to heavy ,go for canvas.

I bought one of those privacy screens for the end for a quick wind break, paid $80.00 at BCF great for a quick wind break, also carry the two ends from the annex incase it rains and I need to block an end.

I am going through the same dilema at the moment, I do not believe a want a full annex, just the ability to close things in a bit and stop the wind, thus probably a single end, a shade front, and a wind blocker to go along the bottom of the van.

I already have small de flappers, but looks as if I will need to replace these with a deflapper bar for the top section of the annex to fit into, also have a couple of sail tracks fitted down the side of the van front and rear for the edge piece of the annex to end walls to fit into.

I an struggling with it a bit, as many people I talk to have full annexes, but never fit them.

Not sure what to get.

Interesting to see what advice you get from the more experienced folk on the forum.

Thanks Plendo, Some of the stuff I have seen with online shops has a lot bigger and wider windows, allowing much more ventilation. I used to have a Viscount pop top with the old style annex (no roll out awning), that was good, but much more closed in than current model stuff.

Graeme, can you overcome the tendency to mould with a spray on treatment?

Yes, Aus-Kiwi, That is what the write-ups on Caravans Plus and RVExpress say too. Easy to clean and dry and mould resistant. I am aware that it maybe more flammable than canvas, but then so is the roll-out awning, as it is also made of polyester compound. We all need to be very aware of fire risks in and around a Caravan all the time.

Hey Left Wing
I have a Canvas Style Awning with vinyl strip at the bottom in case of dirt. Fits like a glove.
It has some chemical built into the fabric which reduces mould - but we never put it away wet anyway.
There is 2 vertical sail track strips mounted down the walls of the van adjacent to where the Arms of the Awning lay when retracted.
I have 3 arched colapsing arms, which fit into 3 brackets on the van - underneath the awning when is pulled out.
These stop the awning roof from flapping.
The end awning walls slide into the awning arm tracks - which stops those ends from flapping.
I had mine made up in brisbane all in plain grey, to match the van at less than $1800. (Aussie Traveller)
Thats fitted with any configuration/colour I wanted.
You can have windows/doors as big as you want thats practical /shape or position.
We have used it a treat since we had it and its just so simple & easy to errect.
We either just use the long wall which slides into the Awning roller when extended OR of just fit one of either end.
I also have a piece of sail track fitted on the drivers side of the van which takes another 4.5m slide in shade/ awning.
Just in case that side is copping to much sun, or I want to put the tug under it in length stays.
That piece made up was only $180 tailored with vinyl strip at the bottom like the full awning.
I figured I may as well get what I wanted ...than frig around with something that was almost...
anyway it works for us a treat.
Cheers
KT
