I rang Judy at Lazeaway today, she said they had a gas BBQ there in a special BBQ spot and also that Lazeaway is only 15 kms from Cuballing if we do decide to have a meal at the Cuballing Tavern on Saturday or Sunday, the Popanyinning store is closed on Saturday and Sunday so not takeaways/supplies etc.   Alternatively we can just have a BBQ/Happy Hour at the CP.  Have a yarn on Friday and Saturday about what the members want to do, if anything, some may just want to veg out, LOL !

Here is the menu again for Cuballing Pub, need to tell me orders again and how many are interested in going for a meal and when (lunch best to avoid the roos etc, but up to what all want etc), pub is 15 kms away...  I do have to ring through the day before for a group with numbers attending and what type of meals will be wanted.   Bryan, if it is a Sunday, are you still able to have lunch there before you leave for Perth?  See menu below;

If its Sunday, I'll have a light lunch  and leave by 2ish.

Hi all, I have been a bit quiet since the locations have changed, but I have now set my plans in mud!

We leave Wagin PM on Sunday 2nd Feb.  We will go to Pumphries Bridge for Sunday Night.  A few of the you who are staying in the caravan park indicated you may are going to call by on Monday, I think.  If you are planning to call through, PM me, I will give you our mobile to check if we are still there,

Some time on Monday we will move to Congelin,  Looks like Barna Mia is open for tours on Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday.  We will try to book ourselves in for Monday evening...

We will probably stay at Congelin for a couple of days before heading further north.  Want to spend a few days looking around the York area, understand there is a nice 24 hour camp in town.  Noted there are lots, read LOTS if geocaches around York.

Need to kill a bit of time before heading into Perth to a caravan park (yuk) for various medical/optical reasons, before heading on to Yanchep by 16th Feb for another house sit.

Not sure if we can check on Monday to see if you are still at Pumphries as we do not have internet/phone coverage at Popayinning, although it may be ok at the store/po area of Popayinning (sealed road goes through from there west to P/Bridge) as they would need it for their PO activities (card use etc) I would imagine.

We went into the Congelin campground about a month ago, no drinking water but tank water at the campers kitchen for washing up etc not suitable for drinking.   A sign at the front of the camp shows where the different types of RV's, tents etc can park, including caravans.   I don't think there would be too many camped there at this time of the year, but you never know, there was one family caravan parked there only when we went in, they were going to Barna Mia that night and returning.   Suggest book early for Barna Mia as they can only take limited numbers, at least the day before if not sooner.   Suggest call into the Narrogin Tourist Info (town side of the old railway line) to make a booking on the way up from Wagin, or ring them (just around the corner from them is a bakery with food to die for).    We rang the day before we wanted to go and they only had two spots left which we took, the numbers are for the animals welfare.

Like ships passing in the night, if we miss you at Pumphries I am sure some of us will catch up later somewhere along the track.

No worries Bryan, will have to check numbers again before I can ring the pub, however if only a few are going then probably won't need to book.

Thanks Vic, water at Congelin is not a problem, we will make sure our tanks are full before we leave Wagin (300 litres = about 45 litres).  Planning to book Barna Mia tomorrow, so as to start to turn my mud into cement.  I think Jayco Gypsy is planning similar times to us at Pumphries and Congelin.

My leg (knee) gives me curry also these days, but anti-inflamitories and exercise, ice and a knee sock helps.  Just something I have to get used to.  Dr told me so!

Take a jacket to Barna Mia as it can get chilly at night, also helps keep the mozzies off the limbs.  Some spray helps too.  I enjoyed the Bilbies the most but the others are great too.   Hope you enjoy Congelin, there is a dam just up the track from there also, can be accessed from a back road into the camp or from the road leading to Congelin.

Extract of Jayco Gypsy's posts from discontinued thread;

Ok back on topic. I'll opt for Pumpries Bridge as it will be late Saturday or Sunday before I can get there and join you all for a visit depending on arrival in the area. Unfortunately my shift swap fell though so working Friday night shift. I'm not sure about the others yet.

Will be lots of chinwagging going on. I'll get there for my fair share under the gumtrees, just a little later than I'd hoped too.
Planning on grabbing a couple of caches on the way and want to check out Congelin Camp ground as well. (hope the link works)

I have just seen this GTG posted on another forum as a general meet up of caravanners, not a GN meet up, I have no objection to any GN who has joint membership of another forum (or friends) joining us however this GTG is to allow GN members to meet up and get to know each other and was not intended as a general GTG for any other forum.

Other forums can organise their own meet ups, they do not invite us to theirs.

Vic, that could mean anything. The beauty of this site is very, very few have children. Most are in the "older" age bracket. The site chosen is small but would have been OK for obviously our group. Those on this site will be aware of what has been going on on this site and that would have made for some really good fireside discussion. I wonder who the "Brain Scientist" (or is that a "Rocket Surgeon"?) was who posted to a general Caravanners Forum. Poor form IMHO.

It was posted on this other forum by a respected and well liked member of GN who is also a member of this other forum who is coming to our GTG (and I hope they still do, they are terrific people) however the fact that The Grey Nomads getogether was not mentioned and as the other forum has twice the membership of ours, I would not like to see it dominated by members from another forum.  Also as there are limited powered sites I would not like to see The Grey Nomads members miss out due to an influx of non members of our forum.

I have sent the GN member a pm, I am not a member of the other forum so could not post there that it was a The Grey Nomads event, however if the members of this other forum wish to join The Grey Nomads as members (as a few are already) then they are welcome to come along.

 I get your point Vic, but we are all Grey Nomads. biggrin

maybe a PM to the person who posted on the other forum, they may have thought they were doing the right thing to get more numbers there, but there is limited site's at the Lazeaway CP.

I have already contacted them Wombat as I am not a member of the other forum so cannot make a post on that forum stating that the event is being held by another forum and limited powered sites are available.

I have no objection to other grey nomads, but they should join our forum if they wish to come along to our events.   I would not like to see our forum members unable to get a site due to an influx of members from this much larger other forum.   We did not post it here as a combined forums event, and as already said, unless we are members of their forum, we do not get invites to theirs.  It was not even acknowledged on the other forum that this was a The Grey Nomads event.

The whole purpose of this The Grey Nomads GTG was so our members could get to know each other.

I am the 'Rocket Surgeon' Bob.  I am very sorry I did not check with the event convener before posting the event on another forum and did not know how the convener felt about the other forum.

I could say more but will refrain in the interest of harmony for the weekend. I hope you all have a great gathering, and given how I feel we have changed our mind about attending which will allow an extra site for GN members.

What do you reckon Dougwe, just typical of Wombat, organize a GN get together on the other side of Australia from us.

Well if he wants it to be exclusive, fine.

If I run into him in the road I'm going to fill his hole up.

If GN's attending wish to have a pub meal, we could possibly look at the Exhange Hotel In Pingelly, Rob is going to check things out in Pingelly on the way through on Thursday and see if he can get a menu etc.

The Exchange Tavern is in a side street, I think the Pingelly Pub in the main street may be closed down and one link on google show it is a private observatory....  This is the link for the Exchange Tavern, I had emailed them for a menu also.

I like the idea of the Pingelly Hotel, mainly because the other pub is in a RV unfriendly town (Cuballing)
