Although a newbie to this forum and not yet totally grey, I just wanted to say how much I always enjoy getting the latest issue of Grey Nomad Times. Amongst all the dross in my Hotmail account each month, there's always that welcome addition that makes me smile - the latest GNT edition.
Whilst a caravan or motorhome is very much on the agenda one day, along with a Gold Coast penthouse if those Art Union tickets do any good, I remain a young at heart nomad who loves the freedom of a go anywhere 1 wheel drive. My Kawasaki KLR650 is the current freedom machine for me. The economy and amazing access allowed by an adventure motorcycle is mind boggling to say the least. A light single cylinder machine that goes where 4wd's wouldn't dare, with a huge carrier and pillion for tent, bedding, cooker, food & clothes and all for well under $10,000? Yeah, go on, beat that! And if you're lucky, a loving partner hugging close all the way! LOL, I wish! My current Minister Of War hates motorbikes. Pity, I miss her on the road. Maybe she has another fella while I'm away. No wonder she looks happy when I get home !
So far I've managed nearly 15,000 kms cruising around The Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, Murraylands, McLaren Vale, Barossa & Clare Wine regions. If you like to sample the local produce as much as me, I suggest booking into a caravan park or motel before getting on board a tour bus to safely and fully imbibe of Australia's absolute best and world famous wine regions. New and exciting areas for grape growing are opening up every year in South Australia & throughout the entire nation. Remember, it's our duty to gulp long and hard for Australia's wine economy! Beer too, so get to it !!!
My favourite area for on/off road adventure thus far would have to be the Flinders Ranges. Those who have been way off the beaten track up there would attest to it's haunting atmosphere and rugged beauty. Whether native Australians lived or only survived these hostile conditions is only for them to say. I like to rough it occasionally, but I have a choice, they had nothing else. Admiration for the generations who lived here through hard earned knowledge and sheer survival skill is utterly unbelievable. I'm not a 'spiritual' person, but I often felt overcome by the memory of thousands of generations who lived in certain sites. Go there and feel it for yourself. In my opinion it even beats the red centre.
While on spirituality, here is the reason for my letter ........ Many would agree that the northern hemisphere winter solstice was celebrated long before religion was invented. Thus, may I wish merry tidings upon all, regardless of one's beliefs.
Live, love and travel safely with Joy. (And if she has a cute sister, give her my phone number)
Luv, Sabre.

I enjoyed reading your little essay, Sabre. If I was a bit younger, I think I'd be tempted to throw a leg over a motorcycle and experience the kinds of adventures you do. Sounds awesome. All the best to you too.
Hi SABRE, looks like you have done the same trips that we did this year as well. Loved SA, has so much to offer all packaged well. We also rated the Flinders Rangers as one of the best parts of SA, were in there for about a month could have stayed longer.
thanks for your Christmas wishes and we send ours to you for a great Christmas and safe 2014. May you enjoy your travels wherever they take you. For us we are headed to WA for a couple of years all things being equal.
thanks
Brian and Cheryl

Well, I hope you've all had a better Xmas than me. Everything was going beautifully on Xmas eve. I was getting nicely full of Xmas Spirit and Fort Battle-Axe (the missus), was being almost nice when suddenly everything went berserk. There's no way I'll ever try to be romantic again !
You know that old tradition about kissing under the mistletoe? Well, whilst feeling that warm and fuzzy Xmas cheer, I thought, why not bury the hatchet and give the old girl some of that long forgotten love and attention that's been missing for so long.
WRONG !!!
Suddenly I was on the floor in agony after she smashed me across the room with a dynamite left hook that could have killed Muhammad Ali ! I ask ya', is it really so bad if a bloke has a few drinks and gets his expressions mixed up ?
All I said was ..... "Hey darl', how would you like a big sloppy kiss under the cameltoe?"
Luv, Sabre.
