Maybe we made a Decision

We're not as happy as we could have been. cry Ten years on and things still annoy my lovely other half, and me at times. I'm not saying they are a bad van, but......!

Just be very diligent and monitor as much as you can. Don't rely on anyone but yourself, have a very detailed list of what is to be in your van, get them to countersign it, then there are no arguments or sour tastes left in your mouth on pickup day. Yes, we are very fussy, but they knew that from the outset.

The above also goes for any manufacturer.

After going to the shows and countless hours pondering over magazines and visiting dealers it looks like we have finally made a decision on a Van. We should be placing an order this week for an Evernew 23'6" van with bells and whistles. Deliveryis predicted to be February which suits us fine. We have sold our house and are currently living with daughter while we boost our super....hopefully to a level that will allow us to travel comfortably. We looked at many vans and some of the once good ones seem to be giving in to the mass produced low cost market which is a shame. Evernew showed us what we believe is the way it should be......a crafted product made to last....very rare these days.

That's awesome... We are still looking, as you know it's a big choice and not to be taken lightly. So 'redjcw' what was your criteria? We haven't looked at Evernew as yet, so please enlighten us.

Regards
John

We are looking at living in the Van for a while so hence as much space as possible. We also looked at quality of the workmanship including little things like robustnes of the catches on drawers and cupboards. The knowledge of the person we talked to was a factor in that Evernew came out as really knowing their stuff. And we did a search on "problems with Evernew caravans" and came up with basically nothing. It was lots of little things that all add up...and the price is very competative but with the extra quality. We narrowed down to two makes and then did a final inspection between the two and for basically the same price we could have the Evernew quality fittings and build philosophy....I like people who are building to last 30years.........

There are lots more things but it does come down to individual choice....but I would say if you are looking then look at Evernew.

Let me say we are in no way connected to Evernew.

Good choice Redjcw,, I looked at Evernew, but choose Lotus, I am Very Happy with my Lotus, [ personal choice as you say ? ] But I was impressed with the Evernew,      and I agree If you want to find an 'UN-Happy Evernew owner ?? You are going to have to look Real Real Hard !!  ----- Happy and Safe travels to you both.

Welcome from me too Johnyboy, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I only have a Avan camper but suits my needs, The Evernew and I hate to agree with Dazren but the Lotus is a nice rig too.

Whatever you get make sure the 12v wiring and system is heavy duty if you plan doing 'Alternative' camping.

Oh, just take care navigating around this forum too and don't get too dazeled by all the wombat holes and a possible Gypsy.

Good approach to what I think is a good decision.

It's a long time since I looked at an Evernew but that is a brand that would be high on my list.   I associate the words Traditional & Quality with Evernew.

Enjoy your Greynomad life.

Hi redjcw, we are just starting our research into a van and like you we reading copious magazines, searching the internet and as it happens visiting some dealers next weekend. Have read a little on the Evernews and they are rated highly.  As delivery will be Feb I'm assuming that it is a custom build? Does it usually take this long?

I believe you have made a sound choice, we seriously considered Evernew, but found that we liked the more contemporary feel we could get in the Retreat, so we went that way. I believe both are premium van builders with sound and well earned reputations for quality and also after sales service.

Now you have the torture and excitement of a six month wait.

Here's our first build progress photos. E900 21' Setup for 'free' camping. Pickup 6th October for a week shakedown trip (western Vic) towards home (mid NSW) if there are no probs or via Melb late in the week. Heading OFF Easter 2015 for 18mths fig8ish lap. Back early summer to re-assess.

I like the workmanship, and it looks as if it will be a nice light van with the timber spaced so far apart.

Redjcw our finial two we looked at were the Evernew and the Roadstar, After visiting factories and reserching for about 3 years and countless hours spent at caravan show in a few different cities. We chose the Roadstar Voyager 22'6" It was a close call But I believe they are the two best vans on the road, the build quality of both vans is exceptional,

I  think our decision was the re-pore we struck up with the dealer that was at the last Brisbane show. That is all that separated the two vans, we were snubbed a little bit at the evernew stand. I think he may have judged the book by it cover. I had been working all night and met my wife at the show we were there to buy a van that day, and I did look a bit scruffy, and the sales bloke more or less brushed us off, but in a polite way biggrin

The bloke on the Roadstar stand was extremely friendly and very genuine as he has proved to be since. Anyway our new van comes of the production line on Monday :D

Cheers

Hi Ron, Did Evernew have a stand at the Brisbane show? I thought they didn't do shows as they are a custom/only built to order manufacturer.?? Maybe something at the Melbourne show.??

Well . . . .Ron. As I thought, Evernew have NEVER been to a show at Brisbane and the last Melbourne show was 2000(confirmed by Darren from Evernew). They don't need to do shows as their vans reputation sell themselves.YOU HAVE YOUR WIRES CROSSED SEVERELY :-/
