Bill Cosby "I'm 83 and Tired"

I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for when I was doing my National Service, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; Muslims burning schools for girls; Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and Madrasa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand , UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck themselves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves unemployable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 83.. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and their children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in. There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on! This is your chance to make a difference.

Im 83 and I'm tired. If you don't agree you are part of the problem!

My sentiments too, though I could add a few more, but I guess Bill could have as well...

Can I ask where you got this and do you know if it's Ok to repost elsewhere?

Cheers,

All self funded retires are just lucky to be in such a position, no one ever mentions that they just got luckier the harder they worked.

I believe if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.  Since I don't have any answers or acceptable suggestions to put forward, I must consider myself part of the problem.  Maybe I am the problem.  I don't believe religion justifies killing others, I don't believe drugs are the answer, nor do I believe our political leaders will ever have any answers until  they learn to represent the majority and not the noisy minority and stop worring about their own loss of face and power.

Does anyone have a list of solutions?

I'm tired of lots of things too. When I mentioned to someone that we were going on another cruise they said," Oh you must be rich" Well I'm not but all my working life I worked hard, sometimes 7 days a week, shift work often & I saved for a rainy day. Well as far as I am concerned I am now in my mid 70s & it's raining pretty hard so I'm spending my saving the way I want to. I pity the lazy ones who live on handouts all their life. They will never have the pleasure of reaping of what they sowed.

Sounds like you're tired of what other people are doing, Astroid. I'm tired of all those things you mention too, but I don't let it worry me or give me cause for bitterness. I have better things to do - like making the most of the time I have left. I have a mate in North Carolina who's 87 and he's tired too. But he's always sending me funny stories and jokes. He also loves to have a good ol' whinge occasionally, but he balances that with a good hearty laugh. And even when he whinges, there's humor between the lines. Meanwhile, I'll keep focusing on the things that put a smile on my face and a reason for getting outta bed in the mornings.

Maybe Bill Cosby had good reason to be tired - he was 83. I note you aren't that old astroid60 so hope you are only giving us Bill Cosby's story and you aren't tired.

This Bill Cosby thing has been around Facebook a bit lately. Bill Cosby denies that he wrote that. Apparently someone thought using his name would give it more credence! Hmmm...

Spam or not, raises some good points, I think I read that on Snopes some time back.  Des didn't say he wrote it he was just repeating something he had probably received in an email or whatever and posted it in good faith, this is what Snopes had to say about the subject;

http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/imtired.asp

Welcome to the forum Des, we get the message loud and clear, keep posting mate, you are welcome here. smile

Word of advice though, don't post anything political, religious or contentious or our Webbie will dump it, keeps the forum nice and friendly smile

FYI, Here is the first thread by Des on the subject of lawn bowling;

Click on astroid60 and you discover a newbie who has posted only 2 messages. Born in '42, by the way, which makes him 70 or 71. There's also no biography.

I sent a link to this thread to a techie mate of mine in Texas asking him for his opinion of the comments, and this is how he replied: Hey Gary,

The GN post you mentioned yesterday is pure SPAM !!!"

Google "Bill Cosby "I'm 83 and Tired" and you get over 68,000 results to that mail.

You should write the GN admin they have a SPAM poster.

It seems to me from some of the previous posts that some are not so tired as angry.  Whilst not everything is always to our liking we still live in a country where we can actually post our misgivings about topics that concern us.  It seems that we have a very homogenous society and one of which we can be proud.  It seems that in any society there will be racists, bigots and the like but for the most part we allow and are allowed to get on with our own lives, have our own opinions and beliefs with only a very small minority trying to deny our own particular tenets.

Cheers

Jack

Unfortunately where opinions fly in the face of fact and proven empirical evidence they are oinions that have no validity. One can take things on a matter of faith where there is no evidence one way or another but denying fact is another thing entirely.

I believe there are still members of the flat earth society.biggrinbiggrin

I'm 43 and I'm  tired of not being able to be like every one else ,
that I haven't been able to to work full time, 50 hours aweek and have a family and all that jazz.
I have never have and never will have the health for all that ,
you guys should count your selves lucky I would have given my right nut or both to be able to be self funded or some day self retired etc...
but you cant always get what you want , like the Rolling stones always say!!

well not so much tired, just annoyed and get frustrated, we do live in the best country of the planet,

and should always be greatfull for what we have and not regret not having what we dont have.. if that makes any sense...

 Perfect sense Milo.

"Can't always get what you want, but just want what you get".  - Rolling Stones.

My Mum used to say: "Bite off more than you can chew, then chew like "bu***ry". As a lady of the old school not necessarilly exact wording but you get my drift.

At times we all we things could have been different but then we would have missed out on the things we do have.

"To everything there is a purpose." - the Byrds

Cheers,

Jack

Just lucky ..... ? How the f... did you come to that conclusion?  I was born to dirt poor parents, I worked hard and educated myself to get where I am.  Why do you think that some people have that kind of luck, while the lazy ones don't!

I don't wish to be unkind but there are plenty of countries where one can work hard all their life and still just make ends meet. I'm afraid that you are not necessarilly the only one on this forum who has come from similar circumstances, worked hard to get where they are but we don't all necessarilly try to make a virtue out of it and justify where we're at today.

I'm pleased for you that you have got to where you wish to be in life.  That others may not have is not necessarilly because of a lack of hard work.

There are many circumstanes where things have not gone completely to plan that you or I am not aware of.

don't be so unkind that to suggest that some people's circumstances are due to a lack of hard work or will.

If everything you have done had one day turned to s**t would you have called yourself unlucky?

Self righteousness can sometimes come back to haunt you.

We are still the lucky country (for many reasons) whatever others wish to believe.

Jack, you are so right, I am lucky I have travelled and worked in many places. I have seen amazing wealth (seen not experienced), and absoloute poverty that humbles you and makes you realise how lucky we have been to live in the lucky country, where you coud work to get ahead, rather than just survive, if you were lucky.

I fear what our children's children are inheriting, while our country pays for the excesses of the current standard of living which is well above what the country can afford.

Agree. I worked in Asia for 3 years in early 80's, travelled a lot and we are soooooo lucky to have the opportunities, some people never have 1 significant opportunity in a lifetime (they are in a lifetime survival mode). It's what you do with the opportunities that counts.

Remember not everyone aspires to great wealth,,, they may seek happiness first.

Very worried about what we are leaving to the grandkids,,,,, it's prety simple IMHO we are pricing ourselves out of the world market generally (and I don't mean just the high dollar at the moment),. It's the cost of doing business etc and ultra high expectations.

Thanks all, for your contributions to this thread.  As the first post was based on a 'web myth', it's probably best to leave it here.  We've had some correspondence questioning the accuracy and the content of what was posted, so we thought it best to close the thread. Thanks for your understanding.
