VAST Satellite TV-Coordinates

Does anyone have a listing of the positioning coordinates for the VAST TV - a listing of all or most places in Australia - do you have it on a PDF file that can be downloaded to my computer?

Didn't get one with the system - not going all the way back to get one.

G'day again,

"Big Sky Country" is the area around the Kamilaroi highway from Willow Tree NSW to Brewarinna NSW, basically the North west of NSW.

I don't like to publicise my exact location on an open(to the internet) forum just a little bit of a precaution.

Ok - never heard the area called that - haven't spent time there, so don't know it at all - and caution is always a good thing. Are you travelling at the moment?

No we got home from our first really big trip a week ago.

A trip of 2 1/2 months from here to Broken hill, Pt Augusta Darwin, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Moree and home and all the places in between and off to the side as well

11250 km and loved it.

Planning for the next one begins as soon as I service the van and change a few things around.

how long will you be travelling for?

We are permanently on the road - left Brisbane in March - went Victoria - now at Ravenshoe in N. Qld - love the freedom of seeing a place name, and just turning off to see what is there!!!  Might see you on the road sometime.  Thanks for the co-ords.

OLD BRINEY - thanks for the info - KFT emailed them to me - so have stored them in my computer -

Jules, are you at the Raveshoe railway Yards?

We went there for 3 days (2009) and stayed 13 days, my favourite place in QLD, don't forget to have a ride on the steam train the guys at the train were great, they took me up to the bridge let me off and reversed up so that I could get pics of them going across the bridge with all the passengers looking out the windows.

Pics

our parking spot at Ravenshoe

found the pic of the train on the bridge

Yep Womby - at the Railco yards - great spot - but the train is not running, red tape has a lot to do with it I think - not sure - but this is a fantastic spot - 5 days so far - about 40 units in every night - would recommend it to anyone!

We have an Optus C1 satellite and have VAST and Aurora.  Does anyone have a list of co-ordinates for the dish for the whole of Australia?

We seem to have heaps of trouble finding the Azimuth and Elevation co-ordinates.  Have looked on the internet and got some co-ords, but when we put them into our Oyster digital Aurora Optus C1 screen, we don't get  any signal strength.  We have had the VAST for about 18 months and lived in South Australia and had no problems with the system.  Have lived in Victoria for the past 12 months and had little bit of trouble but we eventually got tv via automatic search.  We've been in NSW for about 3 weeks and every time we move to a new location we have to manually search for a signal.

We are new to the Vast and don't know much about locating satellites with our dish, so would appreciate any help with our problem, and with getting a list of co-ordinates for the whole of Australia.

Hello everyone

I have attached a pdf of the C1 satellite elevations for most towns in Australia that will help with locating the VAST satellite service.

PLEASE NOTE: all the elevation figures in this chart are 3 degrees HIGH so you need to subtract 3 before setting your elevation.

I hope this works

 Edit: it did work.

In have an app in my phone (two actually) that enable you to setup your dish using the phone screen.

What I do is stand where the dish will go and then when I get a fix I then draw a line in the dirt. I then position the dish bar over this line, making sure the pole is straight up and down (important). Usually it is just a slight wiggle from there.

The up and down shifts very little so only need to worry about this if you have moved from QLD to bot of NSW or VIC, but usually you will see the strength dropping so just try a bit of up and ndown when needed. This is the reason for getting the post vertical (use a bubble in the top).
I have tried the compass and incline meter but it is a pain.

One app was in the wikicamps and the other is "satellite director" which is a free app.

The satellite director even gives the inclination as well. It has two objects and you line them up and you have the direction and the inclination as well you can see on the screen where to point, eg at a tree or over a fence post or similar.

Regards
Brian

Not sure about all VAST decoders but certainly the Altech has, in the set-up menu a facility to place a pointer on a map of Australia and then gives you all the info you need, Azimuth, Elevation & LNB Skew for that place.

If you have a Smartphone you can download an App called WikiCamps for a couple bucks and it will, utilising the phone camera & gps show you the C1 Satellite in the sky so you can see if there are trees in the way of your signal line.

The App also, as the name suggests give a good listing of campsites in your area or searchable anywhere as well as other camping tools.

Personally, I don't look at the sheets to find the sat, just point in the general direction & do a grid search with the dish.  Hits in moments every time.

Cheers Neil

I put the chart up due to a few requests for the info.

I use a satfinder to make sure I have the correct sat and max signal

not everyone has a smartphone or even a smart satfinder
