Forget Wombats, we are in the Alexandra Headland caravan park and upon lifting the bonnet of our vehicle, found that there has been a rodent under the bonnet eating its way thru the rubber trim and the sound insulation.

Luckily it has not attacked the wiring yet.

I have placed a couple of traps under the bonnet and sime Ratsak, no joy yet either.

Total damage, $1200.00

No happy Jan.

Oh no, mice are bad enough. But a rat, yuck. They can do so much more damage.
I know there are mice around here as grandkids dog killed a couple when he was here last week. Also found one running around my washing basket when I went out to the shed to take my washing out.
Just hope they keep away from Myrtle.

Hope you catch it Dusty. Our son's car had a flat battery and when he lifted the bonnet they had a lovely stash of date palm seeds under there!

We had mice die in ours after we put mouse-bait in, and even though we pulled it to bits, and found 2 bodies, we never found the last one and the smell was eye-watering! bleh

After that, I just used traps, emptying it and resetting each time. The mouse plague was really full-on around Alice Springs, and they got in during the hour or two that we parked at Rainbow Valley. In the 70k's from there to Alice, I caught 6 mice! Its a quick and clean way to kill them.

Good luck with the blighters! And the repair bills!

Oh Gerty, I'm glad we found the two dead mice in our car and had no leftovers! Maybe we'll use traps next time too (hoping there isnb't a next time though!)

A tip an old bloke gave us at Curtain Springs was to leave your bonnet open overnight because apparently once it cools down they won't hang around in there. With the bonnet down the heat gets trapped in for quite a while and keeps them nice and cosy. We got one in our campertrailer despite plugging the only two openings with stainless steel pot scrubbers. I woke up when it bit me on the finger in the middle of the night and came face to face with the little bugger.

Ooooh No! What did you say Troopy??? And did you catch him?

It smells amost as bad as a dead mouse, but somebody suggested we put moth balls in the back of the Prado, and we didnt get another mouse in after that although there was heaps about. Might work well for the engine bay?

Rats and mice absolutely hate the smell of Peppermint. If you could soak some Cloth or Cotton Balls in either Peppermint Oil, or less expensive Peppermint Flavouring, and put where they might be a problem, you should be free of them.

As I've posted else-where, I had one trapped in a drawer once, and dropped a Cotton Ball soaked in flavouring in. Within seconds, it was literally Screaming to get out.

I still have cotton balls soaked in peppermint in Myrtle from the mice last year. I have the bottle of peppermint oil in there and refresh every so often, hopefully it is keeping the little devils away.

I thought I put this in yesterday but obviously not so here it is,

Not a rat but a cat.

Many moons ago now I took the family to Ballarat on holiday in our new tent and as we were setting up my 4 year old son at the time said I think I here a cat under the car. I had a look under but nothing, then, I heard it too so lifted the bonnet and bingo, there was our cat sitting in the engine area of the car looking a little stunned. I took him out and he was fine after his journey from Dandenong to Ballarat. I told the owners at the CV park and they said just keep him with us and not worry about it. He didn't even try running off in fact I think he had a great time with us.

Love the look on the cat Marj.

No our cat wasn't heart in any way Marj. He had a great holiday with us and travelled in style on the way home. Our three kids thought it was great at the time. I took the cat to the vet when we got home and he said he has had other people come in with cat's that were under the bonnet as well. The cat's love the warm area and when caught out they can't go anywhere so just have to sit it out until found or the car comes to a stop. Funny now thinking about that. I never thought of that again until now.
