rate of pay

I know this is not realy a nomad question  but thought someone might  know the rate of pay for picking fruit and vegies in Q.L.D   .... Thought someone might be doing it or has been lately

Gday...

Picking fruit/vegies etc is most often on 'contract' rates - i.e. so many $$ for so much fruit. For example I was picking mandarins ($110/bin), oranges ($50/bin). Would pick a bin of mandarins a day - maybe one and a half if I got a good run on good fruit. Would pick two to three bins of oranges a day again depending on if I got good trees. In both instances, about 7 to 8 hour days.

I picked grapes in Stanthorpe and strawberries in Beerwah .... due to the season (late for grapes and not much fruit - early for strawberries and not much fruit) I was paid by the hour to pick - Award rate is $18.51/hour before tax etc.

Grapes and strawberries were on 8 hour days.

'Contract' rate for strawberries is about 65c/Kg - and most pick between 100-200kg a day depending on skill/fitness etc.

Cheers

John

I am glad someone asked that, because that is what I would like to do too.

This link doesn't offer rates of pay, but it has 140+ pages of harvest regions listed. Download as a PDF.

Hospitality=EVIL!!! I have done fruit picking before, and can safely say that I'd rather break my back in the rain than work in a kitchen/eatery/bar .

Yeah, if it's to top up the bank account, I could do it again, but not long term.

That's what we plan to do as well. Work where we need/want to, and for me to finish my degree.

Lilly, the girls here in NQ are getting $19.20 per hour picking strawberries.

I earned $19.50 per hour packing/sorting mandarins at Gayndah a couple months ago.

I think there has been a rate increase in recent months Lilly.  Now you just need to set a goal and work towards it.......stay focused.

Good luck

Cheers B
