Toilet chemical dosage rate

Following on from the dump point in Kyabram thread, it sounds silly but I would like to ask how much "nappisan" people use in their porta-loo? I've been reading this and other forums about it and there seems to be a consensus (well sort of) that the cheap brands of Nappisan are actually better than the Thetford Chemicals. So thought I might  try it next time, just need a dosage rate please???

There is another thread here somewhere Gerty. I googled Napisan and Portaloos and found it.
Ive written in my exercise book a rough version of it so hope its right.
3 dessertspoons Napisan or similiar brand
1 dessertspoon of yoghurt (optional)
1/2 litre of water
Put ingredients in holding tank
Can add extra dessertspoon on 2nd and 3rd day with emptying after the 3rd day.

If there are other versions I would be interested too.

I usually use a capful of Napisan (generic brand) mixed with some warm water and add it to the base compartment of the Thetford. I put some water in the base as well. In the flush holding tank i put a little detergent. Empty as required. I do the emptying myself and give the whole thing a good "going over" at the same time. No smells.

Hello All
I have used the napisan and home brands and both work alright but i was advised to use warm to hot water and make sure all the particles have dissolved
Have also used Biomagic but make sure you do not mix with any other chemicals eg tiolet duct as it counteracts  the biomagic and will not work properly

Thanks for asking for the formula Gerty. Thanks to everyone for the tips, I find some of the chemicals have quite a pong of their own.

Hi All

Well here is a brew that I have been using for 3 or more years started after I could not get my prefered option (Bio-Magic). All ingredients needed can normaly be found in supermarket and the quantity used ogf these basic ingredients last me around 6 months before I go looking for them again. But if you use toilet a lot of cause depletion of supply is faster

A Non Formaldehyde Waste disintegrator

Ingredients:
Borax
Pine-O-Clean (or Myo)
Ammonia, and
Water

Disolve 1 cup of Borax in 1 litre of hot water (not boiling) and when cool,
pour into a 4 litre container.

Add 1 cup of Pine-O-Clean or 1/2 Myo (Eucalyptus Disinfectant).

Add 1 cup of straight ammonia (may be cloudy ammonia).

+

Fill up 4 litre container with clean water and shake.

Add this mixture to your toilet cassette at the rate of 30 ml per
5 litre tank holding capacity. (I usualy add to the flush head and a spash into holding tank ie, around 150ml to flush tank for 25lt holding tank)

The amount of brew required will vary with temperature, frequency
of emptying and variations in use of toilets.

I have had no detromental effect to any rubber seal or equipment in the Thetford Toilet with this Brew

Also an added question I have re using Napisan, does it deteriorate the rubber seals in toilet?

Also found on here somewhere was the suggestion to have a spray bottle with some cooking oil or olive oil, not sure if it matters, in it kept for this purpose. You spray all the seals to keep them from deteriating. Haven't tried all these suggestions yet but they all sound good.

This is our Thedford 'brew', used with much success

To clean and disinfect cassette: After emptying and rinsing cassette, dissolve one capful of Nappy soaker (Coles or Woolworths Brand, preferably) in about 300ml hot water, add a squirt of Morning Fresh detergent and three or four drops eucalyptus oil and pour into cassette.

For cleaning toilet: Place ½ cap nappy soaker in spray bottle, add a squirt of Morning Fresh then top up with warm to hot water. After flushing, squirt a small amount in the toilet bowl; apart from freshening the bowl, the Morning Fresh will help lubricate the seal.
This brew can also be used to clean seat, lid etc.

A spray of olive oil in the bowl will prevent waste from sticking to sides of bowl.

Room deodoriser: 1 teaspoon Bicarb soda, 1 tablespoon white vinegar in 1 litre of water and use in a spray bottle

And most of us have those ingredients in the cupboard anyway.

Will certainly be giving these a go.

Thanks J & K.

The Coles no brand has the highest content of sodium percobonate than all of them and is less than two bucks ( the one with the red tick)

Just a little word of advice..If you have previously used other chemical treatments in your porta po then treat the bottom tank with a double dose of nappie wash stuff fill with warm water and allow to soak for 24 hrs then flush and wash.Woll clean out chemical residues from other treatments and the nappie wash will work fine.
