This is our first post, so bear with us! We will be selling our business within the next 4 weeks and want to take off for the first time for about 2 - 3 months from Melbourne. I am very keen to explore the Top End but hubby (as always more practical) has suggested a more moderate start up the east coast. We are very new to the "nomad" experience and are in the process of researching caravans etc (another whole new topic). What are the members suggestions, will the Top End be getting too hot at this stage. Any advice will be most welcome and in the meantime I will be doing as much research as possible.

We were up in Broome, WA in late Oct last year and although it was heating up a bit at that time, it was still nice and we enjoyed near empty caravan parks and cheaper rates as well. We were in Darwin just before, in august, and many locals did tell us that October starts to get pretty hot there and November is really difficult. I would recommend heading west to the Southwest of WA which is absolutely gorgeous and should be good weather at that time of year. Happy trails!

At the end of August we went off on our first trip with our modified Ford Econovan and two places that stood out were both council caravan parks - one at Yamba (Calypso Caravan Park - right in town) - marked for a return visit when we can spend more time. They offer a $1.00 seniors discount - $21.00.
The other one was Hawks Nest (northern side of Port Stephens) Caravan Park - very well laid out and beautifully maintained - off season $19.80 for a powered site.
