The Cooper Creek offically crossed the Birdsville track today and the water is moving quite fast, it will be most likely closed in the next day or two.

The punt was also launched today and should be operational within the next week.

Such a great amount of water up there, quite Amazing!

Water and Birdlife everywhere up there, its a sight not to be missed!!

There is still a large amount of water pushing down the Cooper Creek system and into the eastern side of Lake Eyre North filling alot of Madigan Gulf, making a flight over this magnificent section of the Lake a must!
Also huge amounts of birdlife throughout the Cooper Creek region out towards the Lake.

Season will be extended considerably this year with the extra water coming into the Lake from the Cooper Creek, and the lanscape has already started to green up over the desert plains.

Hello once again everyone...well My time has now ended up in Marree for the season, and what a great season it was...well still is actually, we still have our Helicopter up in Marree conducting flights.
With still a large amount of water still in the Lake system and both the Warburton and Cooper systems the season has been extended this year, they are suggesting the flood waters to be around well into 2011.
An extremely wet year locally with already double their annual rainfall in the area, causing many disruptions with the outback roads.
For any that haven't made it this year, it could well be another bumper flood in 2011 with all the major waterways into the Lake primed.
Its looking more and more like the green near a coast than a desert these days...well worth a look.

Well just an update on Marree & Lake Eyre this year, we will be once again up in Marree flying up over the Lake region in the helicopter(the only way to see it).

I can only imagine how much greener it will be up there this year from all the rainfall from last year.

If you took the time to look through this thread, it actually contains much more informative reading material on the status of the Lake and surrounds than it does contents of pricing and marketing pushes from our company.

And from looking through other posts on this site it seems to me that people come on looking for informative information on areas of interest thoughout Australia.

I would like to here Cindy's opinion on this one.

Hi All,

Just to let you all know...I am heading back up to Marree with great excitment mid April, this year.

I have been watching closely the movements of water in the region, with a great deal more water falling locally this year, the area is set to be alive with green carpets and wildflowers spreading further into the desert regions.

At present the South Lake is full with 2m of water! The North Lake also has around 2m in Belt Bay.

Could be once again a full year in Lake Eyre.

Will keep you all updated on the scenery from above once I get up there.

Thanks for the update. We’re happy to hear more about the scenery in the Lake Eyre region but we do have a policy of not allowing the advertisement of products or services in forum posts.  I realise that the first post in this string should have been moderated earlier, but as some interesting discussion and  photos followed, we have decided to let the string stand.  We’ll look forward to hearing more about what things are like in the region in April.

They had floods last week at Bedourie which is in the catchment of the Lake Eyre Basin. I think there's still a lot of water heading toward Lake Eyre.
I came down the middle in Oct/Nov and there have been storms across the country from the NW before and since then.
The country looked lush and colourful then, so I can only imagine it will continue to look lush for a fair while yet, even across the breakaway country around Coober Pedy where the vegetation was bigger than the rocks for a change.

Well I have finally made it back up to Marree...went on my first Lake and Cooper Creek flight yesterday....AMAZING!

 

...I love this place.

Hi All....

Quick update from Marree, heaps of water still flowing into the Lake and its filling up!

Just over 2meters depth.

Coopers Creek is set to cross the Birdsville track once again this year, probably in the next 3-4 weeks, I flew some roads department guys up to spot the headwaters of the next flood pulse, and it was around 50kms off hitting the Punt and Birdsville track area.

All roads are currently open and in great condition.

Just a Coopers Creek update....

Yesterday Coopers Creek spilled out over Birdsville track, it will be only a matter of days before the track is closed and the punt is in operation.

VEHICLE LIMITS:

Maximum length vehicle + trailer 9.8metres
Maximum load 10 tonne
Maximum passengers 6
Only one vehicle at a time
Long delays expected in school holidays
No detached trailers

This is valuable information for anyone planning to do the Birdsville and Strez Tracks. The Innamincka crossing over Cooper Creek was going down, but if the Cooper is filling up again, that will cut out crossing there as well.
I flew over Lake Eyre South from Lyndhurst a few weeks ago and it was absolutely magic. A once in a lifetime experience. Worth doing.

So only just over a month ago now from posting that last pic of the Coopers Creek flowing over the Birdsville track, the water has finally reached Lake Eyre and is now spilling out putting even more flood waters into the Lake.

Yet another year with a flooded Lake Eyre which is set to be extended towards late in the year.
