Can anyone out there offer us any advice on Tasmania? We were looking to stay up to a week but I'm having doubts whether that would be long enough. Also, unsure of the weather we can expect.
I imagine it's well set up for camping but if anyone can recommend any decent sites, we'd love to hear.
We were in Tassie in March 2004 and in 3 weeks we didnt see half of it.When we go back we will stay 12weeks at least. It is so lovely you will want to stay longer at every place you visit. There is so much to see and do that you need plenty of time to do it properly.You will never regret it.
Wew spent three months in Tassie January to April 2011 still could have done much more we had temperatures in February between -4 degrees at Tarraleah with the hose freezing up and 30 Degrees in Hobart - could go every summer and not get sick of the place, but winter is a different story. Have a good time there.
We have been here in Tassie since mid November and don't leave till the end of February. Could actually double that time quite easily.
There are many and varied places to stay, freebies, cheapies and the usual van parks.
The one for us so far that sticks in our minds and we intend to go back to is Myrtle Park between Launceston and Scottsdale. Right on the St. Patrick's river (trout) and at $3 per night with hot showers, flush loos, kiosk, fire pits and HUGE sites you can't go wrong.
A good freebie is the St. Mary's recreation ground. Hot showers, flush loos and it's quiet.
Ross van park is $26pn but a lovely place to spend a week, as we did.
New Norfolk is the same price but it's a good base for day trips in any direction. Spent a week there too.
Allocate as much time as you possibly can, you won't regret it.
One week certainly won't fill the bill, believe me.
As for the weather, we have had it all, snow, wind, rain, sun, just pays to be prepared for any type of weather as you can get all four seasons in an hour.
