Time for an Intro..

Hi everyone, well I have been enjoying this site for awhile now and felt it was time to "join up". We are from Queensland and live on a little Island in the Moreton Bay area. Both work full time (for now)

We have graduated from tents, to campervan to now having our very first brand new caravan. We purchased a Crusader pop-top last August and must admit we have had quite a few problems with it. Very upsetting, but slowly getting sorted out. Since purchasing we have been able to go away for a grand total of 2 weekends.no

Anyway, on a brighter note, we are planning to retire in roughly 5 years time and become grey nomads, something we are longing for. In August we will be travelling with a group of friends to Canarvon Gorge for a couple of weeks so really looking forward to that. biggrin
Anyway, just want you to know we love the site and have had many a good laugh plus excellent advice so thank you to all. Looking forward to further chats, cheers
Ellen & Mick

G'day,

A very warm welcome to the forum, I hope all your problems with your new caravan will be sorted out very quickly, there is nothing worse than buying something new and having to spend time having jobs done that should have been attended to prior to delivery.

The first 4 1/2 years will go by rather quickly but that last 6 months will probably feel a lot longer, but it is something to look forward to.

Best Regards and Safe Travelling.

John

Welcome to the Forum,
Nice to read you have been on this for a while
Crusader is a good van, as  a nephew has one in Melbourne
Make sure your spare is in good nick for the Carnarvon gorge trip, the last 20 Ks is rough gravel and a B**** of a road, and its wet right now so it will probably be a little worse than when we there last Apri

enjoy your sunrisesl

Hi and a big welcome from us as well.

We are also new to this site but feel that we already belong to a great group that is always ready to assist with any subject or problem. and the friendly banter keeps us all in touch.

when we are 'out there' a friend is never to far away.

Hi John
thank you for your warm welcome. I also hope the problems with our van will be sorted out quickly. I will be very happy when the new power box arrives and we can have mains power again. Amazing how these things can "supposedly" corrode in a new van and not be covered by warranty. Still keeping my spirits up.. usually in a glass with coke biggrin

Mike and Judy
thank you also. I am glad to know the crusader is a good van though I do need a bit of convincing of that right now. Seriously though, I fell in love with the van and of course my wonderful hubby Mick bought it for me, as he should. Thank you also for your tip on Canarvon we are looking forward to it as last time we were through that way the roads were closed due to the wet. smile

Hi Ibbo
thank you also. The roses will be wherever you want them to be and as sweet smelling as you wish. Life is too short for it to be otherwise. Safe travelling and happy wanderings aww

Lady G
I have been reading the forum for months now and love it. Must say I have had many a laugh thanks to Basil and Dave *curtseying graciously at the mention of the mighty* aww

Hi John and Anne
It is lovely to have a very warm and extremely welcoming site to be able to chat to other like minded people. One can never have too many friends biggrin

G'day Ellen & Mick ...

Given that you are from Brisbane, you may have seen the article on Injune in today's Sunday Mail.  Reading it, it seems that it might be a good place to stop over on the way to Carnarvon Gorge.  I think that another member mentioned a 'free' park there also.

I enjoyed a number of school camps (as a parent helper) at the gorge with my children. Some included a walk up Battle Ship Spur ... If it is still open it is well worth the long trek. Don't miss the platypus in the creek to the right of the ranger hut.

Keep a look out for some of the less well known Aboriginal stuff on the ridge just before the gorge camp area.  Not well signed, but well worth the search for 'minor' relics.  A before breakfast run up Booimba Bluff is for the fitness freaks.

If you are into history then a bit of pre reading on the exploits of the Kenniffs might of interest ... although they were mainly involved above the gorge around Mt Moffatt.

It's a while since I was last there but it seemed to me that the 'Parks & Wild Life ' lot deliberately left the road poorly maintained to limit the visitor numbers.  There were a couple of creek crossings that may have been a bit difficult for long overhang vans and a clay base up hill bit that might be slippery after rain ... all in all it was not a particularly difficult access from the 'main drag'.

I'm certain that you will enjoy it if you take your time both in driving in and when you are there.

welcome to you ellen and mick, the way to aproach the errr!! shortfalls of a caravan/camper/motorhome is not to see them as shortfalls but as a challenge to overcome, your knowledge will grow and whats more you will actually enjoy repairing/modifying your unit, we have!! for many years
