We would like to know too. Which cheapish antenna is easiest to use with best reception.

I am going to put myself in the firing line here, but WHY HAVE A TV

explaination
I have seen this before but the lastest was a classic. Nice free camp, at the waters edge, clear skys, nice day - expensive motorhome pulls in, parks, and NOTHING - did not even see the person (s) inside, but did see the flicker of the tv via the curtains

My partner and I were fishing, talking, walking the dogs. We watch the stars, basically enjoyed the atmosphere. Thats why we do it.

As I see it, without a tv, you will enjoy your trip to the fullest - may even play a board game, you know, bond - develop a new way of enjoying yourself (s)

Is there a name for a couch potatoe on the move?

Well while we are not TV addicts, i.e. TV never on during the day and watch the occassional program of an evening, there are many people who wake up in the morning and on goes the TV and it stays on till bedtime, would drive me crazy, however, some people are travelling for years and and their van/motorhome is their 'home' much like our home is here and TV is part of their everyday life,  just like it is when you are home.

As I have mentioned previously, when we did the Aussie tour 12 years ago with our children -  no TV  (Well not much)! we played board games, cards, outdoor activities and spent quality time as a family in between having a ball seeing this wonderful country, it was the best holiday.

We have got a TV in our van and if there are no other campers to talk to we just might watch TV.....something tells me we won't be watching a lot of telly!

Good thinking Bridgee, have to agree with all your comments,
I have been in some remote places, and have flipped the switch occasionally, especially if its raining cats and dogs, and have got reception some spots where you dont expect it, and on the reverse, nil reception where I do expect it,
My antenna is a combined one about 800mm high, X400 mm wide, about 12 ft of the ground, got it about 9 years ago and not seen it on any other van
so the elements have a lot to do with it, have tried the simple bar and the 300 mm square panel, and the plate on a stick, but have thrown em away

I have to admit to watching a bit of TV while on the road, just to keep up with what is happening in the country, I mean if there was a coup de etat in Canberra by Pauline Hanson I'd like to know about it....Ok TV antennas as the picture these days is usually in UHF to get a decent picture you have to be line of sight to the transmitter, so much as a wet tree can pixelate the picture.... as to the antenna most of them work  but your situation will depend on the reception you recieve. I have a winegard with booster and it don't work at Tathra ,yet the couple next to us with a happy wanderer were getting a great picture.....however as of July this year we go to digital so to get that you will need either a digital capable TV or a set top box... With Digital you either have a picture or you don't, you don't go through the snowy scenes bit. And to answer the next question that someone is gonna ask, don't believe the snake oil salesmen that will pop up and tell you you will need a digital antenna, any UHF antenna will work as long as it is appropriate for your situation. You do need though for crisp Digital pictures to have any coax runs in the proper coax, (RG6 Quad shield) I've just re run all the coax in my home, bought a crimper and crimped the connections and a  Dick Smith Coax stripper made life easy too.......

TV antennas are made to work with certain frequencies. DO NOT BUY ONE OFF EBAY MADE OVERSEAS AS IT WILL NOT WORK HERE!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't really answer your question did I?
Cuppla sites worth looking at;
http://www.saturnantennas.com.au/
http://caravanantenna.com.au/voyager.htm
Having read the specs on the voyager it looks like it should work well especially in fringe areas, you would need to get it as high as possible though at least 2.5 metres from the ground as phased arrays don't like ground plane interference....

Yeah Dave man I know the feeling..... I often suggest to Sybil that rather that watch TV we should go skinny dipping where she can admire my six pack (of cascade light) and then give me a long slow sensual massage just to see if anything pops into her effevescent mind - all to no avail she would prefer to watch someone make a fool of themselves opening cases contining numbers with Johnie O'keefes nephew overseaing this hubris....
