If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.
If it comes from South Africa, all the more reason to be suspicious.
Keep it local is my suggestion.  Work with a company you can keep in contact with.
As I wrote previously, I insured my vehicle with National Seniors, which are underwritten by ALLIANZ, but you do all the negotiation with the seniors.
Check the website, but from my point of view they offer a good deal, and they're accessible, and Australian, as is the underwriting company.
As for South Africa, I am currently "negotiating" with some of their nationals who claim they are holding copious amounts of cash for me, and will despatch the ATC card containing the funds, but first I must send them cash to cover transfer costs etc.
My suggestion is be suspicious, be very suspicious.
All the best, and safe and happy travel.
Cheers Granny

Hi Cruising Granny,
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we got all the money promised? I'd be a multi-billionaire by now. I e-mailed back once, and said "If you send me what I have won, I can afford to send you the fee".
Needless to say, I never heard back. It's a shame so many people are still being taken in by them.
If I get a new one that I think might trap people because it really does sound plausible, I forward it to SCAMWATCH before I delete it.
Don't send every single one these days, as there are so many. Some days I have at least half a dozen.
Cheers,
xina.

Hi Xina.
I have to say they are persistent. I have been exchanging negotiation emails for more than a week with 2 mobs.  I play their game to the point where they demand money from me.  I then "authorise" them to withdraw all fees applicable, and send me the change. Like you, I hear no more.
This most recent experience is going on much longer than usual. They are about to despatch an ATM card with the amount in an account, and a courier will deliver it to my residential address, which is currently a caravan park in Cairns.
The other one is being sent by cheque.  Waiting, waiting, waiting.
I don't send any bank or personal details, or a phone number.
Cheers Granny

Of course there will never be any legislation from Governments.....Why? Because they get GST from every transaction,...Don't they?

As far as those con men are concerned, if they continue to harrass or it looks too good to be true, you can report these activities to the Office of Fair Trading in your state.
Apparently, according to Crime Stoppers, they trace the origin of the con, and report them to their government, and are dealt with. I hope so, although the most recent emails claim the transaction is approved by the government. At $200 a pop, it could be very lucrative, without having to actually provide any services - or deliver all that money they tell us we have been awarded for compensation, lotteries or just good luck.
Take care. Granny

Currently there is a Sth African insurance company operating in Aust by the name of Hollard Insurance.  They are a regulated insurance company through APRA (Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority) and also hold an Australian Financial Services Licence.  They are as regulated as any other insurer in Aust (e.g. Suncorp, CGU, Allianz etc.)

I like others are through National Seniors who are underwritten by Allianz, who techinacally are an overseas insurer but very strong and well established in Aust.

I had my vehicle with Budget Insurance Company, but they will not insurer my vehicle once I have left my home for a 90+ consecutive days.  No good when you are travelling around Aust.

Ask the questions and read their Product Disclosure Statement (Policy) and be comfortable with what they offer.  Remember, price is quickly forgotten but value lives for a long time.
