Canine Friendly Attractions

While planning our trip to the west I made enquiries re my Canine associate being allowed into various attractions en route and I have a few replies back so as they come in I'll post them here, likewise if others can add to the list we could build a decent data base....
so here are a few:
Pemberton Tramway WA
****le Train SA - if a large dog then you get to travel with the guard.
Hotham Valley Railway WA except in the restaurant car
Bennetbrook Railway WA except Mothers day & Fathers day
Victorian Goldfields Railway VIC
Wahalla Golfield Railway VIC
Brisbane Tramway Museum QLD
Waiting to hear from a dozen or so more....

Basil wonders why he is the only person finding these....Any way the Zig Zag Railway is 5 paws pet friendly, dogs and cats get their own free ticket, birds (in the hand) are not allowed to fly around the carriages crapping over everyone unless they are the blue bird of happiness....

Yes that is snow on the ground......

In my case, Basil, it's because I wouldn't subject any poor innocent animal to the traumas of travelling with me.  wink

Basil, you shouldn't have any problems with a designated companion pet.
I believe they get the same courtesy as a guide dog.
Great research though, and valuable info for others who travel with pets.
Cheers Chris

G'Day Basil,

Who in their right mind would go to Katoomba anyways smile.gif

Both the Zig Zag Railway and Katoomba are near where I live (sometimes).

Having worked at Katoomba for several years I have the experience to give an opinion and that would be "Its ok to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."  What a mottley dirty place it is.  BUT, I must stipulate, that is only my opinion.

Good to have an idea where we can take mans best friend, and I will definitely go to the Zig Zag Railway with my 2 x GSDs and see what happens smile.gif

Thanks for the info.  Very Handy indeed.

Keep smiling

Sometimes Granny. I don't push the issue - I just ask the question "Are you dog friendly?" and if the rewsponse is anything other than a resounding "YES"!!! then I back quietly away....

I have used the "companion dog" excuse only once and I felt terrible because I thought I was somehow making a mockery of the rules.

Bilko, Katoomba is strictly a holiday venue for me. Frankly I find it insulting to have to "work in" with tour operators who "have" to get their bus load of asian tourists down on the railway and up on the cable way at everyone elses expense/convenience. However, being an agent provocateur than I am I shall enjoy having the compartment to myself with just SWMBO & Gracie as she (Gracie) is seen by most asians as something to be avioded at all costs, especially if I raise the finger and she growls at them. Katoomba should remain as I remember it as a kid at the Craig E Lee Guest house not some sort of weird annexure to Tokyo

When  you visit the Zig Zag you have to put the hard word on John aka Jandas Fun as his son in law has connections there...

A few other dog freindly activities
Metung Bakery, stragely enough located at Metung on the Gippsland lakes has outdoor eating area for Dogs to while away the hours with their owners quaffing coffee.
The Tea Rooms @ Penshurst Victoria
P.S. Curlew @ Marlo near Orbost
Portland Cable Trams, dogs encouraged to sit up front in the grip Car and bark noisily at passing dogs and cars....
P.S. Canberra, Echuca. There lived long ago 2 famous dogs, the constant companions of one of the old school riverboat skippers the big Beezer & the little Beezer and now all dogs who travel on the paddle steamers earn the honary title of Big or little Beezer depending on size....(before you travel on the Canberra PM me and I'll give you details for a special treat)
Wahalla Goldfields Railway welcome dogs, Gracie sat in the open "observation" car and was spell bound by the spectacular scenery....
