      Hi Nomads
 Wendy and I are shortly going out to buy a pota potty and easy pack shower. 
  Do members have ideas on what to look for and what to avoid.
 We only have a smaller poptop van so space has to be thought of.


 I open this forum first thing each morning   It just great reading.


 oops ps    We were going to visit the west sometime between march/may   is there a better time.  If so we could do Darwin then work down to Perth and on to Adelaide

Try before you buy...have some fun and sit on a few in the store to get the feel of things...some are a long way down with your knees around your ears, so would probably find a small shovel job just as comfortable.
And ask about the chemicals. Some will make your eyes water and scorch your eye brows.

when using these products it is essential that you dont get the porta pottie and the shower mixed up, most unhappy camper, most porta potties are much of a muchness now, the dragon use a thetford (slurpy) had it for donkeys years, easily serviced and repairs arent a problem parts everywhere, I use a big old river red ensuite, you can easily make up your own bio degradeable "chemicals" info all over the net, if you cant find it give me a hoy and I will send you the recipe, we use a coleman shower, basically just a pump with an inlet tube that you put in to a water container and then the battery operated pump (batteries last forever) and the hose leading to a shower head, the ratio of 1 kettle of hot water to two kettles of cold works for us and we get a good shower in about 4 ltrs of water, try that at home, we also have one of those shower bags, black thing that you put out in the sun, works ok if you are settled in one place for a while but hard to get it hot if (1) you are on the move (2) if its really cloudy but in good sun it works real well, space will not be a problem in your poptop, if you use a coleman collapsible 20 litre container the shower inlet hose screws straight in to the cap hole. I remember a show once where this fellow went in and "tried " before he bought, yep right there in the toilet department recepticles not connected, then had the audacity to ask where he could wash his hands, I will look for my "recipe" for toilet chemicals and post it for you I think there may be others that would be interested

ps pretty much anytime is fanbloodytastic in the west, except wet season, shame you cant go around august/september/october wildflowers everywhere beutifull

Yeah Grizz is right there, if they are too low to the ground they are a pain to use. I have tried the elcheapo black plastic solar showers they are ok for a quick wash but you would need one each. The hand held ones with pump that you stand in a dish and recycle the water or put pump in a bucket are good too. One thing I do want to say is that soapfree shower gels are greener than soap in as much as they degrade quickly, though this would depend to a degree on the sensitivity of the environment in which you are showering.

dave please dont even consider those bags on a frame things, had a mate once who bought one, sitting out in the simpson done his business turned round to clean up, whole frame collapsed leaving him sitting in his own mess, water short couldnt clean up properly, read instructions on base of frame and it read "maximum weight 100 kilos" he was 105 kilos, not happy, threw his shirt in the bin stunk for ages, not welcome at campfire
