My apologies, I've been away. Yes it's Frankie Laine.

Singer, composer and author Frankie Laine was born March 30, 1913 in Chicago. His real name was Francesco Paulo LoVecchio and he lived in Chicago's Little Italy. Frankie was the oldest of eight children born to Sicilian immigrants John and Anna Lo Vecchio, who had come from Monreale, Sicily near Palermo. His father first worked as a water-boy for the Chicago Railroad and he was eventually promoted to laying rails. His father subsequently went to a Trade School and became a barber. One of his most famous clients was gangster Al Capone. Frankie made his first appearance in a choir at the Immaculate Conception Church where he was an altar boy.

Sorry, people, I've been AWOL for the past few weeks. Melbourne to Perth and back caravanning, mostly free-camping. Great trip, but too short. No time for computer/internet...

You're right, 67HR - Sir John Forrest, although I suspect Dick0 was on the money...

Harold Holt it is Ted. Over to you..

Harold Edward Holt (5 August 1908  17 December 1967) was an Australian politician who served as the 17th prime minister of Australia from 1966 until his disappearance and presumed death in 1967. He held office as leader of the Liberal Party of Australia and held various ministerial positions from 1949 to 1966 in the governments of Robert Menzies and Arthur Fadden.

Holt was born in Sydney and moved to Melbourne in childhood, studying law at the University of Melbourne. Before entering politics he practised law and was a lobbyist for cinema operators. He was first elected to the House of Representatives at the 1935 Fawkner by-election, aged 27, as a member of the United Australia Party (UAP). Holt was made a minister without portfolio in 1939, when his mentor Robert Menzies became prime minister. His tenure in the ministry was interrupted by a brief stint in the Australian Army, which ended when he was recalled to cabinet following the deaths of three ministers in the 1940 Canberra air disaster. The government was defeated in 1941, sending the UAP into opposition, and he joined the new Liberal Party upon its creation in 1945.

Yes, DickO.  It is John Konrads.  I thought that his ID would take longer.

Over to you now.

John Konrads, a short bio:

Beginnings

The Konrads family arrived in 1949 on an immigrant ship via Germany after fleeing Soviet-controlled Latvia. The family was placed at Greta migrant camp, near Maitland NSW, before being relocated to Uranquinty. It was there, that John contracted a mild case of polio and was encouraged to swim as a method of rehabilitation.

Achievements

John's record breaking best began in 1958, the year John won three gold medals at the 1958 Commonwealth Games. He also won the Japanese and French National Championships in 400m and 1500m, and later held the American NCAA titles for 500yds and 1650yds.

In 1959 John won all five Australian freestyle championships from 100 metres to 1500 metres, and was selected to complete for Australia in the Olympic Games in Rome the following year where he took home a Gold medal and two Bronze.

Post Representation

Konrads went on to be General Marketing Manager for Ansett in the lead up to airline deregulation. Returning to the Olympic City of Sydney in 1996, he consulted in marketing, sports venue development and executive coaching. As an indication of his stature in the Olympic family, John was the bilingual Master of Ceremonies for the 111th session of the International Olympic Committee during the Sydney Olympics.

Well that was just too easy!

Ricky Thomas Ponting AO (born 19 December 1974) is an Australian cricket coach, commentator, and former player. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time and is the most successful captain in international cricket history, with 220 victories in 324 matches with a winning rate of 67.91%.

He holds the record for winning most ICC tournaments as a captain in Men's Cricket, including the 2003 and 2007 Cricket World Cups, and 2006 and 2009 Champions Trophies. He was also a member of the 1999 Cricket World Cup winning Australian team.

Domestically, Ponting played for his home state of Tasmania as well as Tasmania's Hobart Hurricanes in Australia's domestic Twenty20 competition, the Big Bash League. He played as a specialist right-handed batsman, an excellent slip fielder, as well as a very occasional bowler. He led Australia to their second 50 Ashes win as well as victory at the 2003 and 2007 Cricket World Cups and was also a member of the 1999 World Cup winning team under Steve Waugh. He led Australia to consecutive ICC Champions Trophy victory in 2006 and 2009. Combative and at times a controversial captain, statistically he is one of the most successful Test captains of all time, with 48 victories in 77 Tests. As a player, Ponting is the only cricketer in history to be involved in 100 Test victories and was involved in the most ODI victories as a player, with 262 wins, having played in over 160 Tests and 370 ODIs.

A prolific batsman, Ponting is Australia's leading run-scorer in Test and ODI cricket. He was named "Cricketer of the Decade 2000" was named in the country's best Ashes XI in a Cricket Australia poll in 2017 and in July 2018 he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

It sure is. It it the oldest surviving photo in Australia taken in 1845. Its actually not a photo. A daguerreotype is an early photographic process developed by Louis Daguerre in the 1830s and 1840s. It was one of the first practical methods of photography, producing a detailed image on a polished silver-plated copper sheet treated with chemicals and exposed to light. The resulting image was unique, non-reproducible, and often housed in decorative cases or frames due to its fragility. Key points: Process: The silver-plated sheet was treated with iodine to make it light-sensitive, exposed in a camera for several minutes, then developed with mercury vapor and fixed with a salt solution. Characteristics: Daguerreotypes are known for their sharp detail but required long exposure times, making them impractical for moving subjects. Historical significance: Widely used in the 1840s and 1850s for portraits, landscapes, and documentation, they marked the beginning of photography as a popular medium. Limitations: Expensive, fragile, and viewable only from certain angles due to the reflective surface. By the 1860s, daguerreotypes were largely replaced by cheaper and reproducible methods like tintypes and albumen prints. Today, theyre valued as historical artifacts and collectibles.
