Cacao beans are used for making chocolate, not coffee. Coffee plants which produce coffee beans are pollinated by bees. Personally prefer chocolate to coffee but like bees a lot more than midges.

When I read the title, couldn't understand how anyone would like Midges. Have had some here. Also a lot in southern New Zealand. They drive you mad. They even get through face/head fly nets unless they are super fine mesh.
Other half ended up with a red backside using a bush toilet, with a painful result.

YEP! All wrong.
The article that attracted my attention seems to be BS - probably written by someone having an episode with midges. Thought that I had stumbled on something interesting. Best I can recall it was on a naturalist site to do with loss of bees.
Just by the by, I don't have a problem with midges, yet my kids and bride are tormented by them. Sandflies also.
Some years ago I sponsored a couple of British tradespeople because i could not get suitably trained operatives here in Au. The wife of one of the eventual immigrants was badly bitten by sandflies while acclimatising in the Port Stephens area.
I gave them a paid month and accommodation to settle in.
She was badly bitten and was in agony - huge grape-size swellings covered her body - she spent 4 days in hospital!!
Sandflies also dont bother me - maybe 70-odd years in the surf has either toughened my skin or imbued me with a resistance to their poison?
Strange but welcome.

I just remembered those wise words "look before you leap".
Did you know that your beloved coffee would not be there except for MIDGES?
MIDGES are the pollenating activist for the COCAO flower and of course the eventual
bean ends up being your coffee!
Bees are not involved.
