We have decided to buy a new car and leave the ute just for towing and rubbish runs.
Anyway we done the rounds of a couple of those multi dealerships to see what suits us, it became obvious that a medium SUV was the most suitable for entry and exit.
Being a bit of a tight arse, I wanted value, long warranty, roadside assist and capped price servicing. We ended up looking at an end of plate special 2024 Haval H6 Lux for around 35k drive away, alas the only colours available were white or black both are not what I want, so thought I would give my Grandson a ring who works for such a dealership to find out what he could find, an hour later the Sales Manager rang with a deal, the colour I preferred a 2025 model top of there non hybrid with all the bells whistles with staff discount 37k drive away.
Signed the deal 5 minutes later, delivery in about 5 weeks peace of mind 7 years unlimited K Warranty, 5 years capped price servicing, 5 years roadside assist.

unfortunately the Chinese car dealers are offering deals that can not be matched by other manufactures and the quality is surprisingly good. as the other brands?
the only downside is if things do go wrong in future (which should not affect us older people) they may be worth zip.

When you think about it, me @ 75 a -7 year unlimited km warranty makes this almost a forever car, I may or may not be still driving at 82.

All the naysayers about the Chinese cars, I can remember the same thing about made in Japan, the Korean vehicles was the same, India and Russian vehicles are questionable. China is just the new kid on the block. Just remember, there are different brands coming out of China bit like Europe and USA. Time will tell, some of us have less time.

without doing any research think from memory(?) most of the cars out of China are either SIAC or GREAT WALL who are the biggest auto manufactures in the world ( correct me if i'm wrong) with the Indian one close by just selling to their domestic markets

I would not buy a Chinese vehicle out of principle. It's bad enough that the majority of our clothes come from there without making a larger contribution to their economy. The actions of the Communist state in our region is more than enough for me.

I am not big on the Chinese either.
Ever since they bought a large block next to me with a $1 shelf company and they caused massive anxiety to all the neighbours and self.
Their plan was to build high rise flats in a wide leafy residential street that would have ruined the laid back bush Aussie lifestyle we all enjoy in peace and serenity.
One also suspects they would never have paid any tax on rent received or capital gains tax on their recent sale.
Why these greedy money hungry types of overseas investors are allowed into our country when our younger generations are in dismay with home ownership is beyond me.
Well, it is not really, think I read there is an additional % of duty paid on properties owned by "non-Australians".
Give a pollie a tax collection opportunity and all fairness and logic goes out the window.
Also concerned that with The Donald's attitude toward tariffs for "mates" and his recent defence decisions, if we are not left out on a limb with little support from the US if we ever come under threat? One would suggest that the Chinese have already mapped where our underwater internet cables are, that is if there are not explosive charges already in place all over the world where they want them?
So they know what they can do with their crappy made utes and the like.

can not really blame the CHINESE they are only doing what our politicians let them get away with. as far as "crappy utes" they compare well to the imported other brands and a whole lot cheaper unfortunately we no longer manufacture motor vehicles (except kenworth and mack trucks)

My concern would be with Chinese utes and one of the main reasons I went away from them is - parts.
If a conflict kicks off in Taiwan, which is very likely, how do you get parts out of China if there are sanctions on them or we are at war with them aligned with AUKUS?
All that aside from the moral issues.

Totally agree. No problem with their cars but I would not support their economy to that extent, it may come back to bite us.

they could be getting even cheaper with the American market almost closed out to them, we could become a disposal/dumping ground.
a lot of the other manufactures use parts sourced from China.

Collection day is Friday, I have no quarms about choosing a vehicle made in China, because its value for money.
You dont need to look very hard around your home, to find items made in china. big box retailers like KMart, Big W, the electrical retailers like Harvey Norman etc and all the cheap shops the majority of the stock would be from china.
Through the years the same was said about Japan, Korea, India, etc, the number one selling ute sold in Australia is made in Thailand as was Holdens Colorado

An update opinion after a week and 1224km.
Average fuel consumption since taking delivery 6.6l/100k driven predominately in normal mode, although drove 6k in sports mode man that would suck the juice out, we will be travelling between Sydney and Brisbane tomorrow , this is where I will experiment with economy mode.
Generally speaking a couple of things that will need to getting used to is the lane centring, if you get too close to the L & R lane lines it will pull back to the centre whilst giving you a ding ding reminder, this is not active when at slower speeds also it can be switched off but restores to default setting when vehicle is switched off. Another bug bear it has taken a bit of time to get used too, the stalks are on the opposite sides of the steering wheel, occasionally I will turn on the wipers instead of the indicators.
Quality of fit and finish appear to be very good, in a word happy with my purchase.

You will probably find fuel consumption will improve with a few thousand kilometres on the clock.
Also. the lane assist is a feature on many late model vehicles with some having stronger reactive force when you wander. Perhaps you can adjust the sensitivity and warnings. In my 2018 Ford Ranger one feature I find annoying is the driver alert. If it thinks I am getting sleepy it sounds annoying chimes. So after a couple of hours' driving if I gently move a little to one side to avoid a pothole it thinks I may be falling asleep. Indicate and it does not do so. I imagine yours will have that as well.
I also used Forscan software with laptop and ODB2 dongle to turn off some of the chimes. Designed for Ford however.

The trip leaving Kingswood (Sydney) to Rockhampton via the Pacific and Bruce highway was a tad over 1700km for 110 litres of ULP 91 gave an average of 6.5l/100k best was 5.9 worst 6.9.
I will refuel later today for the final leg Rocky to the Whitsundays over the worst portion of highway 1. In places this highway is not muck better than a goat track.

It's not the value for money that is the issue, it is what is being hidden within the tech of the car. You simply can trust the Chinese. Solar panels made in China and purchased by Western countries have been discovered with kill switches. I can only imagine what has been hidden inside the software contained within Chinese cars. That is pretty good mileage Gundog and able to use 91 unleaded fuel. We have recently puchased a new SUV style car automatic not manual like I had. Has all the bells and whistles that take some getting
used to.In 2010 we purchased a Great Wall x240 running on premium 95 fuel. The Great Wall spent 98% of it's life towing our little 12ft 6inch van all over Aus. Overall average of fuel was 12.4 l/100 k so not too bad
over 15 years of use. The last time my mechanic called GWM for access to parts, they were amazed that it was still on the road. He replied that it was still going very well. However in the next couple of years it would
need some work to be done. Thus the change. I had a number of Aussie made cars that didn't last this long , so maybe I had a really great car,but I had no complaints with a Chinese vehicle.
