We are planning a trip down the coast from basically Berry to Eden over about 3-4 weeks. Last did it 42 years ago. We are from SA. Looking at choosing 2/3 places as a base and travelling out , any suggestions , happy with parks, showgrounds etc as we are fully self contained so even National Parks are fine if unpowered. Thanks for any help

I am targeting a NSW vets golf tournament down that way this year (early August).
As a result have been looking at different stay over options in that region.
Last year I stayed at Tathra for a few days.
Mainly fishing. Snared some brilliant flathead, one each time I baited up at "bite time" for about 20 minutes near the lake entrance.
I stayed at the Tathra Eco Camp (I think it and the nearby Tathra Beachfront van park may be owned by Frankie J. Holden???).
I would fully recommend it. The facilities were first class, the people in the office were great and I had plenty of space around me on a powered site down on the grassed section.
Don't like staying near or within range of trees and the park staff were happy to accommodate me with my tree fears.
Give it about 4 1/2 stars out of 5
The only thing I would point out is to be well supplied if choosing Tathra as a destination.
It has a small convenience store only, reasonably stocked but if I stayed there again I would have all my supplies in place beforehand.
Very nice area and town though. Nice beaches etc.

500 metres due east from the Mogareeka Boat ramp.
The little bay there just inside the inlet.
Must have hit the magic tide time and they must have been laying in wait for the food coming in the channel.
The tide was coming in slowly at around 7 am or so in the morning.
Think I got five or six successive hook ups and returned the smaller guys until I got the bag limit of beauties.
Had to be there at exactly the right time.
Prawns and worms from memory.
That will get him more interested ha ha

We were returning from Victoria in October and come up the coast from Lakes Entrance to Wollongong.
Lakes Entrance,Vic. Recreation Camping Ground. Good situation, low cost.
Moruya NSW. Ingenia Holidays. Good price. Enjoyed our stay, back fence was great.
Moruya Heads, NSW. Camp Grounds, low cost, this time we needed power.
Wallaga Lake, NSW. Ingenia Holidays. Good price, enjoyed our stay.
We went a little further north and we stayed at Corrimal Caravan park near Wollongong, their school holiday rate was good along with a level site.
We found on this tour frustrating along the south coast that caravan parks are lacking in having reasonable level sites as we were looking for suitable areas to visit for my unwell lady. We can not wait to go freedom camping again.
Hope you enjoy the South Coast as much as we did.

Merry Beach looks very good.
I have also stayed at Lakesea Caravan Park Durras.
Also very friendly and close to the beach and lake.
Not many van sites there though.
Also stayed at what is now Ingenia at Moruya, but that was a long time ago.
Moruya, like most towns on the South Coast was a lovely spot.
Have been researching a central van park ground for a planned foray into vets week of golf at Bega, Eden, Pambula-Merimbula and Tura Beach Country Club later this year.
Merimbula Lake Holiday Park so far looks to be a decent central location.

Merry Beach good but a couple of points.
Stayed there about 6 weeks ago.
Potable water not available at each site as whole of park being replumbed - water available at selected locations within park - tanked in daily. Need to have jerry cans or take your van there.
Bridge to park (front entrance) derated to 3 tonnes max. All towing vehicles must enter view rear access - narrow through permanent vans.
Beach front sites can be very tiny and not level.

Hi,jbrinks, If you are on a pension,you can apply on line for a NSW Parks pass.
That way you do not have to pay for the daily fee charge for the car.
Even if you pay to camp in their National Parks the daily fee for your car still has to be paid on top of your camping fee.
WE love camping on the South East Coast,some of our favorite spots are .
Pretty Beach NP. near Merry beach.
Bounda NP
Beachcombers NP, formally known as Blackfellers Pt. this is at Potato Pt. Bordalla.
Boydtown CP

Some parks are free entry. Some parks are free overnight. Beachside ones are usually not cheap.
All need to be booked and paid online and demand for the prime parks is high, so weekends in summer can be difficult unless booked well in advance.
