Not sure Neil but the article mentioned something about models not competing against each other, at a guess Honda may build the small vehicles and Nissan the large one's with some sort of cobuild for the mids.

They are more likely to share engines, tranny's (can you still say that?) and electronics between the manufacturers to cut costs.

How has it come down to this situation?
Why didn't Nissan continue producing quality diesel engines for the Patrol? The reason given was that they couldn't meet the tougher Euro emissions standards but was that an excuse?
Toyota certainly raced ahead of the traditional Toyota/Nissan rivalry in the larger 4WD vehicles when Nissan dropped the GU Patrol. People who would have been traditional Nissan owners were forced to change allegiance to go to the 200 series Land Cruiser if they wanted a similar sized diesel vehicle.
When I bought our D-Max, I resigned from the Nissan Patrol Forum - I was asked why & was told that many members had done a similar swap but remained in the Patrol Forum.
Around my suburb I am noticing a few more Y62s but I'm willing to suggest that few of them see a dirt road especially with their nice black & chrome vehicles & HT tyres.
