Hi everyon,

there is a thread on this however it was last used in 2009. I thought I would start a new one. Am having some real problems replacing old 10 and 15 amp with new ones. The new ones dont fit between the out and inner wall. I have bought the largest spacers (20 mm) and they still dont make the outlets fit. The outlets that I bought said they replace the old version but they dont. This is really giving me the shiites, can anyone please point me in the right direction.

Try using a backing plate Or mounting flang as they are called.

I have these spacers or flanges as they are also called. My outlets old sit flush inside the wall cavity and has room for the wiring to be connected. 

Try getting an electrician to replace them as if your not one, it is illegal. But then you obviously don't care about that. This is the only answer that should be given to this question.

 Qualified and has to ask a question like that. He isn't qualified and if he is he needs to find a completely new job cause I wouldn't  have him change the batteries in my TV remote if he is qualified.

No reason why he does not buy the bits he needs (so he gets exactly what he wants) and have them installed by someone else.

Still not enough room even with the extra backing plate, just how wide is the wall cavity ???? I have removed mine for a refit once and it was a tight fit even for the old style socket and looking at the new version I think I would have dramas as well getting room to fit ........................ Might explain lower placement on outer wall on new vans with a boxed in section inside ..............

Try 2x backing plates or cut out one from HDPE Board, the stuff poly cutting boards are made from, does a great job and is electrical/heat/water insulated and I have used it for a number of things on van especially as backing plate for electrical panel and other panel jobs.... Can get thick cutting boards of the stuff at Bunnings and laminate to get the thickness needed.

 The other way would be to cut right thru the inner wall, and cover with a junction box which is what they are for ... a junction box is the stronger of the type..

Mick. have the electrician purchase and fit it. Why go to all that trouble of finding the right fitting when a qualified person would surely know how to solve the problem????

That tells me that you removed the existing 15A plug and tried replacing it, or do you have Superman's X-ray vision?
