Way back in the late 1970s, I installed after market AC in my Peugeot 504. Still to today it was the best system, it would freeze the nuts off a brass monkey. I can't remember what I paid other than saying, at the time it wasn't that expensive. That's basically why I got installed.

Also had a "Smiths" underdash aircon in my 1973 Statesman Deville. Much colder than the current integrated car aircons.

Those cars had 56Kw & 44Kw engines (when new). Often I briefly turned off the AC off at the lights, to avoid the "anchor"!
And it would probably work with an inverter!
