I has just been announced that Viva Energy, is aquiring On the Run servo's.
Viva own the rights to production and distribution of Shell in Australia, whilst they owned a number of Shell sites they recently brought all 700+ Coles Express sites from Coles, this will add 300+ OTR sites along with their wholesale and distribution business to the Viva operation.
Viva already own Liberty Oil as well, therefore Viva may be the largest retailer od fuel in Australia.
Chevron has recently brought out Puma, which will eventually see Puma all sites rebanded as Caltex, the Puma Marlborough South in Qld has already been rebranded as Caltex.

Good information there Graham. Thankyou.
Do you happen to know the relationship between Caltex and Ampol?
Seems that many Caltex servos now are being re-branded as Ampol? Cheers

Ampol was badged Caltex under licence, Caltex parent company withdrew the licence hence they were rebranded back to Ampol.
Chevron own the brand names of Chevron, Texaco and Caltex, I would suggest rebranding Puma to Caltex fits with brand awareness.

The lower the number of companies supplying our fuel the higher the price. The higher the price the happier the government is as they get 10% on top of all their other charges. If we went back to producing our own fuel they would have to invent other charges to maintain their revenue stream.

I think this is drawing a longbow to blame the government for corporate greed. I thought the companies were just using the private enterprise system to enlarge their profits.

Spot on BarneyBDB,
10 percent is a much more satisfactory outcome on a higher inflated price than is the same 10 percent if collected on a lower sale figure.
An important but very simple calculation to bring more *coffers* into revenue while having the mask of no competition withing our fuel retail industry.
These types of corporate actions can never be reversed yet they are encouraged by the same people who once stood to defend us from these very actions.
