Qantas chief Alan Joyce has defended his airlines' increased fares, saying rising input costs, such as CEO salaries and bonuses, as well as unforeseen perks, have necessitated the price hikes.
"There's a war in Ukraine right now. That has nothing to do with our prices, I just thought it would sound interesting for me to say that. But on top of that we're having to absorb millions of dollars in my pay packet".

We have Qantas a few times domestically, not by choice, they were tired aircraft. I think a 120Y ride would have been preferable!

I know this is supposed to be the Jokes thread, and The Shovel article fits that. But I don't understand all the negativity.
The primary role of a CEO is to make money for shareholders. Airlines were hit pretty hard when Covid hit and are still recovering. Yet from the bottom in March 2020, Qantas shares have almost tripled in value, virtually double the growth of the ASX market overall. Seems like he deserves more pay .

How much of Qantas' current prosperity was due to the taxpayer funded support during the COVID lockdowns? Perhaps the taxpayer should be getting some return on investment rather than Qantas shareholders?
