I have a Jayco Journey so I imagine the systems are similar. At the time of hand over the sales representative at (Jayco Canberra) went into some detail as to how to reset lighting issues at the power source. I duly recorded the information but as the van is not at my present site I am unable to give you the info. However, before you get too far along the replace/cost curve you might want to drop in to your local dealer (Canberra?) and pose the question. I was at the above dealership a week ago and the same sales rep was there so he/they should be able to give you a steer.

My 2016 Starcraft has the Sphere remote lighting system installed. I have 2 x 6 channel control units installed in one of the cupboards. When we picked up the van I had been lead to believe that the bedside multiswitch panels with an "OFF" switch would switch off all lights. This proved not to be so, as I found in the morning after our first night in the van that the outside wall light had obviously been blazing away all night. So, I found the one page of Sphere instructions among all the van's documentation and reprogrammed those bedside OFF switches to include the outside wall and the awning strip lights. It took a bit of trial and error but I managed it. It is really a two-person job, one at the remote switch position whilst the other is situated at the control unit to press the micro switches and watch the little indicator LEDs.
If you don't have the instruction sheet, I believe it can be downloaded from Sphere. Have fun.

Why do they install all this whizz bangery? - when simple mechanical switch would suffice.

Exactly ....keep it simple (also cheaper and easier...)
I have just done mine so see how you go and if you can't work it out get back to me

Just be aware, that, but probably not in this case, an outside influence can stop those lights working. It then is just a case of operating the lights manually until one changes to a new sight. We had this happen, once when we were sighted next to a transformer, and another at a park where somewhere in the vicinity something was causing interference.

Cause it saves them running wires all over the caravan and allows the remote switches to be placed where they are convenient to use. I think they are great.
