Hmmm waste of the forum space by a couple of old farts showing off their egos !!
In my opinion the fridge technology has hardly improved. The only major improvement in house fridges is inverter technology that reduces the compressor speed to match the heat load and stop the excessive stopping and starting. Hmm at what cost ??
Just insulate your old one and keep going, clean the condensor and fit better heavier wiring if keen.

The Engel compressor has not changed at all. What has changed is the drive for the compressor to all electronic. This does give a bit less current draw. Personaly if its working properly then stick with what you have.

You could say its lasted 20 years . Its a good one . So many cheaper parts in known better brands these days !! Door seals etc must be in top condition.

Once you have made sure the compressor rubber mounts are up to standard. After 20 years if not broken they would be like concrete so would need to be replaced.
Then cover the fridge in engine bay 25mm acoustic insulation which is self adhesive, with a decoupled mass loaded vinyl layer in its centre.
Don't chuck the fridge, good ones are worth their weight in platinum.
Hi,
I have an old (20+ years) engel 40 litre upright danfross compressor fridge.
My question is how much have compressor fridges changed over the last 25 years?
Do newer fridges use less power, better cycle times, better insulation etc. to warrant replacement? Th
In your case, if its not broken, dont fix/change it.
Not a lot.
If you want to improve efficiency you need to do it yourself. A lot of the issues are the manufacturers saving 2 cents here & 1 cent there.
I rewired the fridge form 16awg to 12awg to reduce the voltage drop. It wasn't a lot, but why waste heating thin wire!
