The item is called a weight distribution hitch - there are several members here that are experts on its use.

A motor museum would most likely like to have your unit; as it probably would have been delivered by Noah on his first trip in the Ark.

About 15yrs ago I brought a weight distribution bar and I cant remember what it was called.
It attaches to the towball at one end and A frame on towed unit by bending a flat shaped bar and it is one side only on the a-frame.
Was mainly for camper trailer/trailers etc. A pic is attached
Does anyone remember these and what they are called so I might be able to find it on google as I want to gift this to a friend?
Hi dmccue
Actually it is really a sway control bar for light duty like campers/trailers etc. It has the friction unit on the tow mount to damp out any swaying. The bar is only light and provides little weight distribution but loads the friction device when you hook up the bar to the A-frame. Looks like a useful device for improving the trailer stability towing with a light vehicle.
I am not familiar with that particular unit but someone might know it ! It looks more like an English design possibly.

Most of the ones pictured on google are 2 sides where as this one was single side
And funny as your comment about the museum

Similar to Trojan (bar wise) but no chains on mine. Just lift it up and over the a frame hitch as it has a lug to stop it coming off

Correct, it is an anti sway device, It does have a little WDH feature about it but the primary objective was the anti sway feature. They are a European device and as far as I remember (only back to 1970) it was not marketed in Oz.
