I have 3 deep cycle batteries to replace. Advised to remove battery charger and solar regulator fuses. Them all negative cables from batteries followed by positive cables. Then reverse this procedure when batteries in place. Starting with positive cables. Does this make sense.

Read the solar controller instructions.
Many require the battery to be connected BEFORE the solar panels, otherwise the controller has no clue what the battery voltage is.
So I would disconnect the solar panels from the controller first, then disconnect the controller from the batteries.
After that does not matter so much.
Cheers,
Peter

Reason for the - first and last . if theres a spanner touching the earthed body ? Its not connected - to earth or body ? Doesnt matter ! As its not a complete circuit ! I turn everything off first and check all cables are labeled . In my case red for + .

This makes perfect sense to me as an Auto Elect we do it all the time.
