A failure of the central electronic control data network management unit will increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders.
What are the hazards?
Due to its installation position, if there is liquid or liquid droplets spilt on the rear seat bench the control unit for network management may become damaged and fail.
A failure of the electronic control unit may have various effects on the vehicle functions. Restricted functions are indicated by warning messages in the instrument cluster.
Possible restricted functions could be: Engine The engine enters emergency running mode and continues running with reduced performance. Gearbox The automatic gearbox interrupts the power flow in the drive train. Steering The steering reduces the steering assistance in stages; it may therefore be necessary to use more force to turn the steering wheel as the vehicle slows down.

Hi would that be a model that is commonly used to carry kids to school and back ???
Hmm should have a warning for that. Give the yummi mummies something else to worry about as they drive !
WTF were the designers thinking when they designed it ??? How much would a plastic shield cost to fit over it ?

Remember the old beetles had the battery under the back seat and quite often the springs in the base of the seat would cause a short in the battery and because of a thermal runaway the car would catch fire. (There did I get that right)
Or after years of the battery being overfilled because no one could actually see into the cells of the battery during servicing, the resulting acid spill would cause the battery box to rust out and the battery would fall out onto the road.
Years ago I came across a beetle on the Stuart Highway that had *stopped* I pulled up to help and when I looked underneath all that was left of the battery were the lead posts bolted inside the brass battery terminal clamps. The battery had completely worn away after miles of contact with the road.
We might all hope that today the schoolboy engineers could make better use of modern material and their collective brains and create a design where important electrical components arent installed directly under seats.

Yes that happened to us , a fire under the back seat caused by seat springs shorting out the battery. VW 1600 station wagon.
We were very lucky at the time 'cos when we stopped the bloke following us stopped and put the fire out with his fire extinguisher .
