Monday my engine warning light came on, the ute felt like an old carby vehicle it was like it was flat spot at 2500RPM, in reality it was limp mode active.
The scan tool was connected but Torque app was not active, activated the app, ran the Fault Code check, it came up with error code P0107 MAP sensor issue.
I could reset the error, after doing it the engine ran normally, however switching the engine off the next time the engine was started it would throw up the error again.
Brought a new MAP sensor, took about 15 minutes to replace the faulty one. Ran the diagnostic all good.
Inspecting the old MAP sensor it had a small amount of carbon build up around the sensor, I could have chosen to use a sensor cleaner but as the Ute has done 240,000k, what the heck 42 bucks for a new one why frig around.

Carbon is a big thing with these days with near all Diesel engines. When this happens you originally think the WORST ! Try some sea foam ? Its an engine cleaner product .

The real question is what is carbon doing near the MAP sensor. EGR is past the MAP sensor - or so it should be.

map sensor is normally in the intake manifold not sure with the 3 litre ranger

It gets there through PCV . Possibly time to fit oil separator ? Or run hose higher off the rocker cover or crankcase so oil has less chance of cycling through inlet

MAF is on inlet . MAP is either bolted to inlet or sHirt hose to it . They read better bolted to inlet but can suffer contamination! I figure its a 3.2 ?

pretty sure on my ute the map sensor is in the intake manifold maf is on the air cleaner housing

Before the MAP sensor was replaced fuel consumption used to be in the high 8's to mid 9l/100k abd the drifted out to low 12l/100k, now consumption is down to 8.1l/100k ovder 1300k of which was 200k city driving the 1100k was highway driving from the whitsundays to Brisbane.
Not bad for a 12 year old ute with 240,000k on the clock.

a good quality catch can can eliminate a lot map sensor problems
