Sanjay Thakrar, CEO at Euro Exim Bank Ltd, got economists thinking when he said:
"A cyclist is a disaster for a country's economy. He does not buy a car and does not take a car loan. Does not buy car insurance. Does not buy fuel. Does not send his car for servicing and repairs. Does not use paid parking. Does not become obese.
Yes ...and well, damn it! ...healthy people are not needed for an economy. They do not buy drugs. They do not go to hospitals and doctors. They add nothing to a country's GDP.
On the contrary, every new McDonald's outlet creates at least 30 jobs: 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 weight-loss experts, apart from people working in McDonald's outlets.
So, choose wisely: A bicycle or a Mcdonald's?
Walkers are even worse. Those people do not even buy a bicycle!

I have car but don't drive as we can't find parking.
I have a bike but don't use it because I don't like helmets. Never worn one from my first bike.
I walk, but the number of times In have tripped on footpaths is out of hand & ended up in hospital, keeps the economy going for others.
Same with other half, & my Dad, & my Mum, all with some very serious footpath injuries, & I can count a few neighbours who have provided plenty of work going splat due to walking.

There are a couple of messages there "when", keep your eyes on the road ahead, we're in the back seat huggin and kissin with fred.
A number of councils have an app to report crook footpaths, we keep the concrete grinder busy in Albury fixing up footpath trip hazards, but do it the old fashioned way after my cook tripped on one. Our council also did a gold plated camera survey using a 4 wheel bike a couple or three years ago, helped a bit. Pavers are the worst blessed thing for footpaths though.

The irony is that Euro Exim Bank is headquartered in St Lucia, a tax dodge. (Yes, I know it's a joke)

I find it quite ironic that the girl in the photo is wearing clothes which will get caught in the bike chain causing her to end up in hospital creating lots of work for the medical industry.

Living in Manly, bikes are ridden with thongs for personal safety.
The number trees & signage poles that jump into my path I have lost count!
