I was sitting outside the aluminium tent in the early morning sun as I do every morning enjoying breaky and a cuppa, yeh it's a hard life but someone has to do it, when, I noticed an ant, yes an ant. Now, I like you probably, am not a big fan of the little mongrels, they can cause big problems in vans etc.
This biggish black ant that can have a nasty little bite was flexing his/her muscles by trying very hard pulling this rather large insect like critter that was obviously dead along a obstacle filled pathway with little stones and leaves that to the ant were major problems.
Now, I kept watching this guy working very hard but managed to move about 4mts in about 15 minutes of very hard work when, out if nowhere came a magpie, swooped down to grab said like insect and shot through. I could see the disappointment on the ants face as he waved his/her legs around cursing the magpie.
Nature at work of the bigger eating the smaller. I actually hoped there was a cat further down the track watching all this too.
See, I told you it was world problem.
Yeh I know, I need to get a life

Never get tired of watching nature! We live in the bush, and sometimes I also watch the ants and their struggles on getting a bit of food or whatever back to their nest.
They are very determined!

I reckon you Magpie dropped this one onto my front verandah rail, so maybe deserved some compo.
Recently when we were in Cairns I had a small lizard that would sit nearby and race to grab the March flies as I swatted them. I'm sure he ate about 8 before giving up. Just had to watch the Curlew sitting also nearby didn't grab him. Great fun with a cup of coffee. Cheers Stewart.

Brings back memories of younger days bending over with a large magnifying glass and zeroing in on an ant, man they smoke up good!
Well, for ants anyway.
