Did Australia declare to late? A extra 10 overs would have been handy!!

we will never know. But Poms could have had a bash and won if we had.

OK! I know I am an old Indian Chief and a Baseball fan and I don't follow or know much about Cricket. I was watching the last 30 mins today waiting for the news and for the life of me can't understand how the Poms were no where near the OZ score but it was a draw. How so????

Dougwe,
We scored 416 runs in our first innings, 265 in our second giving us a total of 681.
The Poms scored 294 in their first innings, leaving a total of 389 to win the test in their second innings.
We had to get all of their 10 wickets to get them all out.
They only scored 270 runs, not enough and we only got 9 wickets....1 short, so neither side won...therefore a draw.

Test cricket when it is close is a absorbing and fasinating game.

and if the Poms had got to 9 for 389 it would have been a TIE, (not a bow either).

Was it dropped catches that allowed the draw or insufficient overs?

Thanks Collo, I think I understand all that.
KevinJ, if I do understand correctly, I see it as fir OZ to win they just ran out of overs.
I think I'll stick to my Baseball.

Ah yes, but they dropped catches during the match which would have accounted for the last wicket being taken within the timeframe.

Then the Poms drop plenty, so allow us to get that far in front.
And Chief, how do you get to the "bottom of the 9th ?? "
