I am coming under pressure to fix what appears to be a snoring problem.
I have a specialist appointment for the end of January but I thought I would seek the opinion of this very knowledgeable community in the interim.
Of course some suggest that not drinking, loosing weight, changing partners or sleeping alone will help.
I have found a range of devices advertised on the internet ... like -
Chin Straps & 'Mouthguard' type appliances. Perhaps even cPap machines.
What are your experiences in solving loud snoring.

I gave up milk, cheese, and beer, and it went away, if I do eat cheese as I love it, that night I have to sleep outside in the old cabin, above the chook shed, and that is true, hence don't eat cheese much.

You probably should have a sleep apnea test done, I had a mild sleep apnea so trained myself to breath through my nose while sleeping.
This can be achieved by holding your tongue in the roof of your mouth so you only breath in through your nose. You will need to do this when you go to bed and constantly remind yourself, it doesn't take long to achieve.
If you get a stuffy head or post nasal drip that stops you from breathing this way simply have a saline nasal rinse at night and in the morning.

All good so far ..
I don't drink dairy (Soy for me) but love cheese. Don't do beer either - not very often though. So I can easily abstain from those.
I rather like Kebbin's self train suggestion. I fancy that I am rather good at mind control, so I'll start a trial of that.
I suspect that the specialist will suggest a sleep apnoea test (BTW he bulk bills over 80's Yea).
I go to bed first every night .. Maybe I'm tickling her in the wrong place.
Pls keep the advice coming .. be nice to surprise her for XMAS or perhaps the New Year.

If her snoring is such a problem, try wearing ear plugs.

Apparently I only snore, loudly, when lying on my back and I'm usually a side sleeper.
In any event living on my own in a caravan in the bush seems to have resolved the issue AND I get all of the queen bed to myself :)

There is an excellent Android app for those interested ... "Sleep as Android". It listens and records all night and analyses the different phases of sleep. You can use it to detect if you have sleep apnea, or just replay any segment.
One useful feature is the alarm clock. Instead of waking you on time, regardless of whether you are in deep sleep, it will pick the most natural time (while in light sleep), then gently wake you a little earlier. Various settings for this.
It works best if the phone is connected to a smart watch but does the job fine without.
But you probably should be tested for sleep apnea.
Can't load this address ... Can you send it again please

Take a couple of weeks to get used to it. But big improvement. But can cause the lower jaw to ache a bit. So I fdont use it every day,, say 5/7 days when caravanning. At home sleep apart. Has certainly helped the quality of sleep.

Sleep apnoea is a serious medical condition! Not just a bit of snoring! After 31 weeks on the road in in 2011( I thought many times we would be kicked out of van parks due to the noise) I convinced my hubby to be tested! Multiple episodes of not breathing including 1 of 120 Seconds ( not joking!) was a wake up call of how serious this condition is! Sometimes the CPAP machine is a bit of a burden but the effort is worth it!

Yes Trish/chappy you are right.
It is for this reason that I got my GP to give me a referral to a specialist, who by the way, kindly bulk bills over 80s.
Thanks for your input.
