The appalling results at the COP26 gives me climate stress. Is there no hope? If one reads many of the comments posted on this forum, one would think that the majority of boomers are climate skeptics. That makes me want to leave this forum. It's depressing to think that no one here wants the climate fixed.
Then I read somewhere that the majority of boomers do care about climate change and many, like I, are doing what they can to minimise their carbon footprint. So why does it seem that this forum is full of climate skeptics? Maybe it's just a few people who make the most noise and it only SEEMS like the majority of grey nomads don't care about future generations?
So please, help me decide if the GNs are my type of people by answering, 'yes' or 'no' to these two questions and please don't make this a discussion. It's a poll.

I do believe climate change is caused by humans, but mother nature is also in on the act. Learn't this at Uni, whilst doing a Applied Science Degree in Environmental Science and Technology. The climate has been changing since the last ice age, and although it is warming, to a degree, and it has sped up in the last 80 years due to human intervention, if the poles were to melt, and they are melting, it can cause an ice age, and most likely that this will happen. I do believe, that everyone should reduce the carbon foot print but the planet will do it's own thing regardless of what we will do. An ice age is coming, and if it is anything like the last one that lasted 300 years, it will happen almost overnight and come with a bang. You will get storms upon storms, you will get heat before it gets cold, once the planet makes up it's mind, after that it, will take no more then a month to happen, so likely sometime in the next 200 years. PS: The next Ice age will last for a long time maybe upwards of 10,000 years. The reason we came out of the last Ice Age early was due to volcanic activity. But our planet is very old and we have less of this activity to bring on methane emissions, that would cause the planet to warm again. Only 1.9% of the worlds volcano's are currently active, when we came out of the last ice age, their was 19% activity. So the next ice age is going to be a long one and we wont survive.

The term Climate Change is only a recently penned new terminology for The Seasons.
Every day we hear the irresponsible reporting of the media trying to turn an event of nature into something else with adjectives along the line of Catastrophic and Unprecedented.
This mornings news was a classic when describing the floods in Forbes. The Lachlan River along with most other Australian rivers have flood events directly related to rainfall. This act of nature has occurred for the period of my life so far.
Our children and grandchildren are being brainwashed or at the least, manipulated by these terms, similar to the current reporting of the introduction of EVs that will save the planet.
My reply was the same for both questions suggested later in the first post by the OP.
Looks like you are trying to get an argument going, "my type of people" ??

Because that's what it all comes down to.
No fuzzy warm feelings about electric cars or wind turbines or PV panels it's all about money - your money and lots of people want it.
One time in court, a witness was asked a question and answered by saying 'i believe so'.
The judge jumped in and said 'the court has no interest in your beliefs, we only want facts in the matter. Beliefs are reserved for religions'
So to answer the question, i dont believe in climate change but i know the facts say yes, we caused it
Covid 23, or maybe 25, or ..... The next one that we can not develop a vaccine for?

Great post Rob.Those who believe in climate change,or that EVs are the future,are living in lala land.For millions of years earth has gone through cycles,and this will continue long after we've "gone on ahead",to use Doug's terminology."You can fool some of the people all of the time,and all of the people some of the time,but you'll NEVER fool all of the people all of the time." However,the media and dimwits are trying their damndest to do so.Cheers.

sooner or later the population could increase to the point that a disease/virus just run rampant due to close contact. the population could be reduced down to the point that we don't affect the environment any more .
if predators become excessive for the prey available they either starve or move on, then the prey multiply an the predators re-establish them selves and the cycle repeats.
most of the movies showing the demise of mankind have the cities in a state of collapse and a few survivors going to the remote areas to start over.
nature has a way of fixing things soon after we stop interfering ,just use Chernobyl as an example
Yes, and I think it has been happening for thousands of years. You don't just burn or cut down large forests of trees in order to provide farm land or grass lands for your food animals without there being at least some localised climate change. The largest change has obviously come since we started releasing all the carbon locked away in fossil fuels.
To dispose of waste in the ocean is probably viewed as one of the cheapest ways to get rid of rubbish by irresponsible groups.
To clean up the ocean is and will continue to be an extremely expensive exercise.
As Mike Harding said in another topic, *no one wants to pay*.
For similar reasons there was not a common ground met at the COP26.
Many countries economies rely on coal for power and industry and sale to others, ours included.
No one is going to vote for their own economic failure on a country level even when their representative is being pressured by others with a different agenda.

The monotony of which you speak is evident from the other side as well.
I do agree though that some scientists have skewed and misquoted previous figures to support their view. Not only scientists, politicians and public commentators who have an interest in financial gain are doing the same thing.
The worst part is that the media find delight in supporting the radical view.
To create divisions in a community manufactures news. This is so much easier than actually going out and sourcing fact and then reporting accurately in their respective news services.

I'm an engineer of 45 years experience; I don't "believe" in things. In my book an assertion is either able to be proven mathematically or it's not. eg. I "believe" in the ability of pigs to fly and I insist you do too... sadly I cannot prove the veracity of my belief... but I *know* I will be able to in the future so you should all believe me now and pay for flying lessons for pigs.
More seriously: it would be a foolish person who did not accept man's industrialisation of the planet for the past 150 years combined with population growth has not been a positive thing for the environment but the question we need to ask is how much of our society and how far are we prepared to damage it in order to do something about the matter?
I'll keep repeating this until I'm blue in the face:
How much more tax are you prepared to pay for this one issue alone?
How much of a reduction in living standards are you prepared to accept? Fewer hospitals, fewer schools, no new roads etc.
This all comes down to **MONEY**! It is not about feeling good and virtuous because you bought a Prius - you're going to have to accept a major drop in your lifestyle mate!
Hey! I live in a caravan in the bush with a close to zero carbon footprint... what do I care....
PS. Keep in mind (look up the figures) something like 90% of the plastic pollution in the oceans comes from 10 rivers in Asia.
Just follow the usual money grabbing people conning the people,set there scams up before Cop26.
Al gore did the same before "Inconvenient truth".
