Alan Jones has done his last program on Sky News, I never really warmed to his on screen persona. His program was too much about his personal monologues, about he's right and everyone else is wrong. I have no issue with Sky News being heavily right wing, as I lean to the right. Goodbye Alan I won't miss you.

TV has never been his forte, he has never succeeded in it....strictly a Radio man, but his time has come now as his time is up, I hope that he retires silently and just sticks to his occasional newspaper articles. I was a fan in his hey day, but alas, father time catches up with us all.

Thankfully he will just go away forever
What a horrible thing he is
I know several people who listen to him daily and their views reflect his,
I could never understand how anyone could listen to the rubbish he spews our
Nothing concerns him, even the numerous court hearings that ruled that he broke broadcasting laws
I saw that poorline Hanson has offered him a job.

The whole line up at Sky are extreme right neo nutters who ravish turmoil, everything they spew reeks of a antagonist viewpoint. As for their supporters the American Redneck always comes to mind, absolutely no thought of consequence of their actions.

If Sky News is "extreme right" then where on the political spectrum would you place, say, General Franco or General Pinochet or, for that matter, Adolf Hitler and when did the goal posts move?

I would say right there with them, Mike. If they were still around today I am sure they would have their own show on that channel.

ISTM that the political spectrum is nonlinear. Instead it's more like a logarithmic scale, so the difference between far, extreme and ultra is relatively small.

It interests me that you cannot (unless you are being frivolous) make a distinction between brutal, murdering, torturing dictators and an Australian television channel; that you are so myopic in your political view you see the two as synonymous.
I have noticed the term "extreme Right" being bandied about wildly over the past few years and it seems to me this is being done to vilify political thinking which is anywhere Right of the Centre. If the media (I hate to say it but mainly the ABC) can associate the political Right with "badness" (and extreme is usually bad) then it will encourage people away from the Right wing of politics. One *never* hears the term "extreme Green" and very seldom "extreme Left" but if you wish to observe the veracity of such I commend the journal Green Left Weekly to you.
I ask again: what is "extreme Right wing"? Is it:
Being in favour of private health care or
Being in favour of private schools or
Being in favour of letting the police hold people without charge for 365 days or
Being in favour of forcing unemployed people to work in lead mines or
edit: Someone who is opinionated and whose opinions do not align with yours
What *is* *extreme* Right wing and how does it align with Sky News which, by the way, I have never watched?

I dont know if there is an extreme right Mike. There are right wing, centre right and left and left wing views. I guess the term extreme is just subjective.
I dont watch SKY as they are just paid talking heads pushing Ruperts agenda. If he changed his views tomorrow, so would they.

If he is a fruitcake, then surely the supporters of the ABC lefty loonies could be aptly described as mindless numpties.
But in fact I like the fat guy with a beard because he calls it as he sees it, which resonates average bloke or sheila in Oz.

Your logic appears to be, "I am an average bloke, fatso resonates with me, so therefore he resonates with every average bloke/sheila".
How about an impartial view (see page 55)?
Digital News Report: Australia 2021 (University of Canberra, News and Media Research Centre):
Sky "News" gets 10% of the audience, the ABC gets 40%.
Not what your would call a piece that would resonate with the majority the population, I fear it would fail the pub test.
How did they contrive the ABC get 40% of the audience, the rating dont support that theory.
Channel 04/11/2021 28/10/2021 07/10/2021
ABC TV Network14.50%14.40%15.60%
Seven Network28.60%27.10%21.40%
Nine Network27.30%27.40%32.80%
Network 1020.60%20.60%21.00%
SBS Network9.00%10.60%9.20%
My numbers appear on page 55 under the heading "ABC CONSOLIDATES ITS POSITION AS TOP OFFLINE AND ONLINE NEWSBRAND". The fact that Sky doesn't rate in your list suggests to me that you're looking at some other list. The publication that I referred to compares ABC Newswith Sky Newsand other newsnetworks. On that basis the ABC gets 40% of Australia's newsaudience whereas Sky gets only 10%, lower than SBS at 15%.
BTW, I don't get my news from the pub.

People will watch whatever news meets there political leanings. Anyone, with more than half a brain, will see through the so called journalism, when the said journalist has an agenda, and mentally filter out that rubbish. Others take it as gospel, requote the supposed presenter and think that they are right because that trash suites his or her way of thinking. Some presenters need a lot more filtering than others.
It's getting quite boring reading these posts about commercial versus public funded media. No one is going to change another person's preferences with these quibbles.

So stop reading and commenting on such threads then.

One of the purposes of argument/debate is to change the view of another but further reason is to test one's own opinion to see if the perspective of another has more veracity than one's own. But if you feel that nothing which is presented to you will sway your views then so be it.
